Similar to new fighers, Echo Fighters were introduced. They are very similar to already existing fighters.
To avoid taking up even more space I'll just list the new ones:

Since this topic has reached over 10,000 posts, it's about time for a new one. I'm sorry for any inaccuracies there may be after this thread closes. Inklings are gonna be fighters this time?!! Oh man that sounds awesome!!!

I guess if there was someone I'd want to see in Smash at some point…. Maaaaybe NiGHTS or Klonoa? They already have Sonic and Pac-Man in Smash… I doubt they'll ever be put in, though, considering how obscure their games are nowadays…. But I feel like if they were to be put in, they could do some really creative stuff with both these characters and their abilities.

There needs to be a saying like “A good scream” because that describes what happened when I saw the announcement.
I've had two dreams before about Smash on Switch, and here's what it's like in the dreams:

The logo and menus are purple (Which actually makes since, because the 3DS logo was red and the Wii U logo was blue). I don't remember the new stages that were added in my dream, but a lot of the stages were from older games. The cast was the same and they wore the same outfits, but Pokemon Trainer and Ice Climbers came back (Now we know the Inklings will join and the Zelda characters will have their BOTW outfits. But if the Nintendo Switch can support HD rumble, it can definitely do 2 in 1 characters).

Anyway, I'm really excited! Melee was one of the first video games I ever played, and I can't wait to see what new features the Switch version will have-especially getting to know how to use the Inklings!

I had it in the back of my mind that if Nintendo was going to reveal something big, they'd save it for the end

I went onto YouTube to find a trailer almost as soon as I clicked onto this topic to see if this was real.
I haven't gotten around to playing Smash Bros. yet, but I'm pretty excited. I'll be surprised if it's just a remake of Smash 4 because the trailer seemed a bit too ambitious for just a remake. Time will only tell if this is Smash 5 or a remake of Smash 4.
I honestly wasn't expecting this to come from a Nintendo Direct. I was expecting them to announce a new Smash game at E3 instead.

I was talking with someone about the announcement of Smash switch, and they said that they saw BoTW Link in the trailer. So, something to be (mildly) excited about.

Let's guess the characters in the silhouettes!

So the ones to the far left are probably Samus and Donkey Kong. To the right of Donkey Kong is Peach, Kirby, and Marth. To the right of Marth is Corrin and someone who looks like Ness but could maybe, just maybe, be Squirtle…which thus means that my dream literally came true. There are two characters to the right of Marth that I think are Pokemon, but I don't know which Pokemon. To their left, there is a character that I think looks like Lucina and two characters that look like Bowser and Pikachu. The far right two characters look like Zelda and Jigglypuff.

I think it will just be how he looks now, remember Ike's redesign from Smaah 4?

I think it will just be how he looks now, remember Ike's redesign from Smaah 4?

If they redesign him completely then MAN BoTW's going to be a massive turning point for the series

Major characters I'd like to see in Smash 5 that would make sense considering current circumstances (though the second one is mostly wishful thinking):

Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles 2)
This one would make too much sense. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a AAA title for the Switch that hasn't sold as much as other games released by Nintendo recently. However, it is a great JRPG and would make sense for implementation. His neutral B could possibly allow him to switch between Blades Pyra / Mythra at will, and his final smash could be [spoilers] Pneuma, the final form of Pyra / Mythra in the game. Each would provide different stats, making him more than just a generic swordfighter.

Young Link (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask)
I know what you're thinking: Why would Young Link be added back into the game? Wouldn't he just be a clone? And to answer that, no; after all, this is Majora's Mask. Link's got masks in that one, and some transform him. I'll let you go with that.

Crash (Crash Bandicoot)
Yes, this isn't a Nintendo IP. But it's not a stretch at all. Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy was announced for the Switch today as well, and of course that means that Crash could possibly be up for grabs as Nintendo now has him on their system. With the amount of stuff Crash can do in his games, I imagine his character would be quite unique to play as, and could be the third-party character introduced here.

Primrose (Octopath Traveler)
This one also makes sense. Primrose is a dancer in Octopath Traveler, available to play in the demo. Octopath Traveler is a big Square Enix RPG coming out on the Switch in summer, and with a release in the same year as Smash Bros. from a new IP, I can see this being a reasonable choice. With the new features announced, she could also be a dancer / warrior mix of sorts. Primrose is capable of using daggers and dark magic in the game, and with warrior, possibly swords and spears too.

Ice Climbers (Ice Climbers)
They've been in every Smash game since Melee, but were removed from Smash 4 due to the inability of being on the 3DS. Luckily, 3DS hardware need not be considered for this one; and of course, that means they are likely to return to their former glory in Smash Switch.

These are just my thoughts; what are yours?

All I know is no new characters are there, no use speculating.

I think that some of the most voted characters on the ballot are going to be the newcomers. For example, if the first and second most voted characters made it into Smash 4 as an update, then the third and fourth most voted characters would make it into Smash 5.
