Guide to Finding Duplicates
It's Wahsp. But I added some extra information and removed the out-of-date stuff.Meh, this ones active and the OP is also active, the last edit was less than a month ago, so maybe just ask Whasp on their profile to update it. Is it okay if I renew this topic? Because this is technically inactive and invalid.
Here it is.

It technically works either way but with the space it also pulls in results from the rest of the site, thanks

It's blacklisted in comments. Banned how? I’ve seen multiple users link it
Za-Chary now said linking to it is allowed unless you clearly use it to access deleted posts.

You should add this search engine from Jeffalo, it's not as ugly as FORBIDDEN WEBSITE and actually sorts the results in a meaningful way (i.e. newest), plus FORBIDDEN likes to show posts that don't even fit the search query.

my advice, check if your suggestion is rejected, if so don't make it. Make the topic, but don't post it yet, then check for dupes, if there are dupes, then go to the dupe, instead of posting your own.

Thanks for clarifying!
By the way, this is a bit redundant, because those are legitimate rules, rather than advice. Also, this is a stressed point throughout the stickiea, and if users don't read the first post of those stickies, then they likely won't read #126 either.

This topic could be potentially added at the end of the Suggestions Directory (which I'm still patiently waiting for the big list so I can usurp* it) because they're in the same vein of “finding existing topics”. It could be at the end where it's something like “If you can't find a topic in this list, try these methods:”. One less sticky and one more step to the Master Sticky.
*Crusader Kings made me think the actual definition of usurp was more peaceful and less “illegal” and “by force”
