I've heard that Adobe will shut down Flash in 2020. So if Scratch runs on Flash, then what will Scratch have to switch to when Flash shuts down?

I understand that it will happen in 3 years, and there's no reason to panic, but I'm curious to see what Scratch will do after this time.

3.0 will likely be out by then and it'll run without flash.

Adobe is not going to “shut down” Flash. At most they might not continue to update it.

Much like Microsoft does with Windows. They don't “shut down” old versions, they just gradually withdraw support and updates.

Scratch should be moving onto Scratch 3.0 way before that time. At that point, the website will have moved onto HTML5 to get away from Flash and also become compatible with mobile devices without the use of an external program.

The ST is hoping to Finnish scratch 3.0 in the couple of years which will run without flash.

Scratch 3.0 (that does not need flash) is set to be released next year. So I think it will be fine.
