Hey look, it's the
emoji! The one we all know and… love?
Unfortunately, this emoji is easily the most misused on Scratch (outside of spam). I'm sure everyone has seen something like this before:
When someone uses the
, it's almost always used in conjunction with an insulting or unhelpful post. I can't actually think of a reasonable use of the
(other than in this topic obviously
) than isn't unhelpful or insulting.
That doesn't mean there is no reasonable use of the
, simply that the pain and hate that is causing easily outweighs its usefulness.
Thus it should be removed.

I don't think we need to remove it? That might cause outcry all over again. Yikes.

No Support. A mad emoji is not always used for bullying or hate purposes.

Exactly. I'll admit I've used that emoticon before in non threatening ways. No Support. A mad emoji is not always used for bullying or hate purposes.

Besides, any hate comments or comments that violate rules can be reported, right?
Even spamming can just be reported. But removing any emojis will just cause more flame wars…here…

Emojis are for expressing emotions.

Support. 99.9% of posts that use the
emoticon in a way that isn't insulting would be fine without the emoticon. The last 0.1% are just posts talking about the
emoticon.
It's just not constructive, has too much potential to be used inappropriately and sure, we can report the ones that are bad, but if we remove the cause, we remove the symptom.

Anyway! There are no verifiable statistics for the use of the
, only impressions. People are likely to have different impressions. My impression is that it is frequently used in a hurtful way, and rarely in a useful way. That doesn't mean it can't be used in a useful way, but the consequences of leaving it in are overall worse than taking it out.
