Scratch Class Account (Deleting Student Accounts) Recommendations
This is more of a suggestion:
I realized after the fact that a teacher of a class account cannot delete student accounts. This defeats the purpose of having a class account for many reasons:
1) Students drop/move out of the class and needs to be removed.
2) Students post inappropriate content which includes usernames, comments, projects.
3) Students don't follow instructions with setting up their account and as a result they create accounts that the teacher cannot properly identify.
4) Students create multiple accounts.
5) Students bullying other classmates.
Greater control of the class needs to be given to the teacher who is also the administrator. Perhaps this was an oversight with the MIT team, until additional safeguards are added, I cannot move forward with using Scratch with my class. There are way too many lapses for potential issues with school administrators, parents and students.
In addition, with the shift in educational technology moving towards more online learning management systems such as Moodle, Google Classroom. Migrating Scratch to use existing accounts like Google, Facebook would greatly simplify the registration process. Students don't have to register and create an additional username/password.
In short, this is a great enhancement for our classroom instruction, however, with the limited control the teachers have, it has created a logistical nightmare to manage. Hopefully in the future the MIT can address these issues.

So you mean that the class can only have one account?

No. He is suggesting that the Teacher should have more power to control their students, including issuing bans or account deletions to their students. So you mean that the class can only have one account?
Could you explain problem 4 in greater detail please? I can't seem to figure out why creating multiple accounts is an issue.

I have a few students who created more than one account. Not sure how they're doing it, but it showing up with similar usernames.

I'm still not sure why that exactly would be a problem. They are allowed to create an account as long as they don't violate the Terms of Use or Community Guidelines.I agree, could you explain 4 in detail? No support. If one student did something bad the whole class could get IP banned, which I think was part of the reason they added Student Accounts and Teacher Accounts.

Yes, but with GClass, the username that I would sign up with assuming it was my email or just easy identification such as my name can give a way my location easily, so no support for that part. Otherwise, I like the idea of more control.

My issue is two-fold:
1) The teacher account should have administrative privileges which gives the teacher full autonomy over their class, the ability to delete accounts, censor inappropriate content etc. Currently there is no such features. All I can do is reset passwords, this is not enough.
2) Simplify the registration process, allow migration with other social media accounts such as Google+, Facebook

Ah. Support. It would be a lot easier to just click a button instead of having to type in your username and password a lot.

You still have to enter passwords for using other third party programs that use Scratch. Ah. Support. It would be a lot easier to just click a button instead of having to type in your username and password a lot.

Yes you do, but using an centralize account makes logistics so much easier especially for grade school kids. Many schools use Google Classroom and have accounts for all students.

Scratch Class Account (Deleting Student Accounts) Recommendations
Multiple accounts is an issue (and a waste of space). I have high school students that can't remember their password, so they request a reset – which is fine. But being high school students, they are impatient, so they also create a new account – download the file, and then upload the file. Sometimes this is good on the student's part, because they are doing a second account to submit an assignment on time – still, that means my class of 27 has 31 accounts, with 3 duplicate accounts with names like hgcategor234 and hgcategor2341. Since I can't see the full title, I have to click on each one, and then ignore the inactive one. The 4th “extra” account is a student that is no longer in my class, but again his username is similar to the person that sat next to him, so I can't tell whose account is whose until I click.
This is the first year I'm using Scratch with my Game Design class, and I really wish I had put more structure on their login names & passwords. All of our kids have gmail accounts, which use their first and last names. I understand Scratches commitment for privacy; this fault lies on me.

No support. If your school has proper software for it, you have full power over a student account - you change their password to something only you know, and then delete it with the delete account button, even without software for it. It's even easier if you have the proper software.

You do have the ability to update students' pictures, so to differentiate dead or duplicate accounts, you can replace the image with an X or skull and crossbones. That way inactive accounts are easy to identify without opening them.

Hello,
Thanks for the feedback.
There is a way to delete student accounts - they can be deleted the same way ordinary accounts can be deleted, through the Account Settings page. So for any extra accounts created by impatient students, you can reset their password and ask them to log in and delete their own account.
As for inappropriate content, as the teacher you can delete student comments. You can also report & unshare an inappropriate project by a student, and change their user icon/ profile photo.
You can also change student passwords if needed.
I hope some of that info is helpful for now - we will consider your feedback for longer term plans. : )
Thanks!
