Introduction

Welcome to the collaboration page of Phantom Shadows, an epic fantasy action RPG currently under development by solvedStudio. The game tells the story of a kingdom under attack by monsters, which overpowered the king's army and the royal knights. You play as a Phantom Shadow, a dark entity that appeared suddenly and posseses powers beyond normal humans. There are three types of character you can play as: a mage, an elf, and a knight. Each class has distinct advantages and disadvantages. The goal of the game is to defeat monsters, get experience, skills, & items, and complete quests.

About

This thread will be used by the game's creators to discuss the development of the game. Topics include programming issues/bugs, elaborating quest storylines, and designing gameplay mechanics. At the same time, it allows us to get the opinion of the Scratch Community on things to improve. We need YOUR help! Please let us know of any bugs, excessive lag, and other gameplay issues!

Known Bugs

  • You can't complete the Traveller quest objectives yet
  • Summoned creatures walk through the bridge and obstacles
  • The flags still spawn if you load a character with that part of the quest completed

Other suggestions
  • Make it more obvious you have to start the tutorial quest to collect the flags
  • Improve summoned creature stats or behavior so they are more useful

PHANTOM SHADOWS – TO DO
The following is a list of features that we still need to add to the game before we can consider it “complete”.

Player
  • Create special attack for the mage
  • Decide on defensive manoeuvres, script and animate them

Quests
  • Write the storyline for “The Traveller” quest
  • Script “The Traveller” quest progress and rewards
  • Add more opportunities to make choices
  • Have quests slowly reveal the truth behind the monster attacks

Items
  • Come up with more unique items, with different methods of obtaining them

Monsters
  • Script boss spawning and AI
  • Create more boss animations
  • Find a way to reduce lag caused by monsters (fewer monsters, more difficult to beat?)

Miscellaneous
  • Add new, non-linear areas (cave, well)
  • Create music for each area

I'll definitely do that in a week or two when we're releasing the game beta
About completing the game… solved suggested adding a boss monster, but other than that, what else do you think we still need?

@gadgetguy2006 found a bug:
  • Items dropped when killing a monster on the bridge sometimes drop towards the bottom of the screen
I'm guessing this is because the items follow the curve of the bridge, which goes below ground level beyond the edges of the bridge. We would need to add a script that switches the dropping behavior from “bridge” to “standard” if the items are no longer at bridge x.

Or we could try to prioritise the ground detection. => If we're touching the ground there's no need to go further down

We currently don't need any more programmers, but we do need people to test out the game and report bugs. Would you be happy to help with that?

Changelog:
Not a lot of things you are going to notice. I just added new graphics for a later use.

Okay, that makes sense, but what is the story? At the moment all we have is evil monsters wandering around and attacking villagers…

What about making the player discover that there is a king/leader of the monsters? While searching for the leader, one more and more see a huge conspiracy to bring humans back in slavery and murder the wise king of the humans.
