Version History/Revert

So if your game auto saves as you accidently deleted everything, you lost everything, unless you had it saved somewhere else. All that hard work is gone. If Scratch adds a feature to check you saved version history, with a revert to version feature, you get get back your previous saved work.

Support, but it might be hard to implement due to limited server space. However, if the versions are kept on the clients computer, that would be great.

You can occasionally make copies of the project, or if you are collaborating, remix each other's project.

Simple - keep the last 5 changes like this:

BASE PROJECT - All data recorded
Change 1 - differences between base and version 2
Change 2

Change 4

Most of my project data just got deleted.

I left my project running on one computer, edited it (a lot) on another computer, and came back. When I got back, it said “sign in to save”. So I did. And then it saved the version I had on the first computer on top of the one I made on the second computer! (I closed the window of the second computer, so I can't restore it from that.)

Then perhaps you shouldn't have two project editor windows with the same project running at the same time. Also, please don't emojispam.

It would be better, I sent a complaint about no auto save. it is sad that I have to spend another week making the sprite again, and I practicaly gave up.

Hey, so I've run into a slight issue. So I was programming a game that wasn't perfunctory, and I arrived at a part where I needed music. So I went to a different project, backpacked the music, and went back to my game. But when I went to My Stuff, I was obfuscated to find that the last edit was four days ago! I was infuriated with my computer, so I looked all over the web to find out how to somehow go back in time because the autosave must haven't saved fast enough and when I left that certain page, deleted all of my progress. All of my searchings led me to here, confirming the fact that Scratch doesn't have that kind of capability. I felt very malaise when I figured this out, so can you please elucidate on why and how this could've possibly happened? For such a good website like Scratch, this is very capricious. But for now, I have a high antipathy against Scratch and its perfidious autosave. So can you please fix this exigent problem? Thanks!

That is some of the highest language I have ever seen used in a Scratch forum post, lol. Some of the terminology you used is… uncommon.

So, do you support this idea? Obviously it seems like you're offended that Scratch doesn't save version history so I'm guessing you like the suggestion, then.

OP, support as well. This is a must have, and could really save you, especially since the Scratch undo depth isn't that deep.

I don't think a version history would help what happened in your case. If it says that the last edit was 4 days ago, that most likely means that Scratch didn't save before you left the page. That's a reason why it's a good idea to make a habit of manually hitting save before leaving the page.

No support, you can

1 Download Scratch Desktop and the project
2Use the save as copy feature when making changes

You should totally make a history button to be able to go back in time with your projects

As for server space, keep in mind that the ST seem to have plenty, for example I have about 3000 projects in the trash so Also, the server wouldn't need to store each and every version of the whole project, only the changes since the previous one.

Not support. Scratch would have to save 3 - 5 .sb3 files per project instead of 1. This will crash the servers.
