Punishment for not reading the stickies

Okay… I've had enough. People posting things without reading the stickies. I see people posting suggestions all the time asking for multiplayer blocks, username changes, disabling remixes, and more! Why can't these people read the stickies first? That is what those are for! Not for people to blantly ignore and cause annoyance to rule-following scratchers. Therefore I propose this: a temporary ban (maybe a few hours) upon the third offense of not reading the stickies on the Suggestions forums.

Why should we suffer just because people feel the need to be more important than others and disregard the stickies? Why should these people be left unpunished after multiple failed attempts to show them the rules? Why should our forums be spammed by ignorant people with no respect for rules? Please support this cause.

I'm gonna have to semi-support, bans should be reserved for inappropriate things not not reading the stickies. Also, how do we know if they are or aren't reading the stickies?

If they have read the stickies it's definitely a bad thing. Anyways, no matter if they have read or not the stickies, they should always get a warning when they do it, and having 3 warnings before the ban is fair. And i feel not reading stickies which are obvious that you need to read (Posting Guidelines, “READ THIS BEFORE SUGGESTING ANYTHING!!!”) deserves some kind of punishment.

That is going to far with banning a 3 min post limit so

No support. What if you post 3 topics at once but don't even notice the stickies are there?

Instead of punishing people for not reading the stickies, why not just make the stickies more clear? They just look like normal topics now.

Some kids are just excited to share their ideas with the community without looking up obscure rules first. You're not “suffering”, and these people aren't “ignorant”. Cool it, and stop acting like this is some sort of crusade

I might mention that most people who post ideas like this are excited 7 year olds, rather than some part of a grand conspiracy to ignore out-of-the-way rules like you're letting on

Are you serious?

No support because Scratch is a friendly place where we share projects, and not a place where we ban people for not reading the obscure details of every letter of the rules.

Oh yeah. Right now the closest thing to a “distinguished” sticky topic is, well, a row of @@@@@@@@ signs: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/4/

There should be some feature that allows an admin to distinguish a thread. That way it can really stick out: Read This Before Suggesting Anything

Edit: Btw there's absolutely nothing stopping you from, like, not clicking on threads that you feel are spammy. You're under no obligation to reply “Really? Read the stickies” or something like that either. Just report and move on.

No support. Some Scratchers can be five or six year olds, and you can't blame them for not understanding. If they post spam or a duplicate, a Scratcher will probably warn them by saying ‘You shouldn’t do that'. There is no need for a punishment for misunderstanding.

Read the OP. Only on the 3rd offense will they be punished.

Support if the user also gets an alert in their notifications the first and second time they do it. Then the third results in a short ban.

I support this except if they are minor alerts. Giving a large red box with text in it shouldn't be the punishment for not reading the stickies.

Semi-support. My buttons keep being pushed whenever someone posts a rejected suggestion, however a ban is too tough. Why not just a little warning?

Supoort. Why don't we have a popup show up when visiting the forums for the first time to read the stickies?

I made a suggestion for that, I'll bump it

No support, yes I want this but it's way too unethical for the young non-mature audience.

What if people don't want to read the Stickies because the Stickies don't even have anything to do with them?

Some people don't even make forums (an example being me). The Sticky you are talking about is aimed for people who make their own forums.

What I mean by that is it's impossible to post rejected posts if all you do is answer people's questions.

I agree with this. Also:

Temporary bans, while they may seem effective, are a little too harsh in my opinion. These things aren't really ‘harming’ anyone, it's just a little bit of work to report them to be closed.

I know that reading the stickies is very important, so I think that getting people to read the stickies should be done in a positive way, not a negative one. For example, we can continue what we do now: Quoting a specific part of the stickies and reporting the topic to be closed. Or, something could be done about making the stickies stand out more, like scratchisthebest, ChocolatePi, and MathlyCat stated.

No support.
