So sorry I haven't posted on this thread in some time, I've been very busy lately! I have been thinking quite a lot about this idea though and have sorted out several of the problems. Before you read this, please know that I am not by any means attempting to assert my own thoughts or force this concept into being established. I am simply expanding upon a thought I had to make the Scratch site an even more positive environment and award well-mannered individuals.

First of all, whoever is assigned to post a Scratcher on the homepage should obviously not be able to post themselves. There could possibly be a voting system in which normal users can propose others to be presented. Other unsorted issues were how long a Scratcher could be featured, how many could be featured at once, and how frequently one person could be put into the Homepage Worthy section. Depending on activity, a Scratcher could be on the front page for anywhere between one and four weeks. The number of featured Scratchers may also vary. Users come and go, and however many people the community believes are truly worthy, the number could be roughly between five and twenty. It is my opinion that a Scratcher should be able to be featured in this particular section only once, but I suppose if someone is particularly fantastic, they can be awarded again!

I doubt this suggestion will ever go into effect, but I felt I needed to finish what I started! If you have any questions or comments regarding this idea, please let me know! I'd be happy the reply back to anything you have to say! Thank you!
Who would be assigned? How so? What if they had “favorite” Scratchers? Bribery? (don't know how ) Spam requests?

Voting. There are a bunch of popular Scratchers for their animations… People would vote for those over… and over… and over… ad infinitum.

Scratch Mentors? Check those out

Yea, I don't really support… it seems, to me, make Scratch more of a FAMEFAMEFAME ME WANT FAME thing.

EDIT: Medals? Even more boast-able and fame-game-able (xD). “I have more medals than you!” Yup. Another reason why… no support.

We have curators, Scratch Mentors (in 2014+), and featured projects. I think that's enough.
Thank you for the advice! It is my belief that Scratchers who are famous for their animations (as you said) would not be repeatedly voted for this section because it is not created for individuals who are skilled at programming or even making high-quality projects. The Homepage-Worthy area is meant for users that are consistently kind to others and always willing to help. Most people with any sense would not allow the same person to be in the section over and over, but as a precaution, a Scratcher will only be able to achieve a position on the front-page a maximum of three times. And this idea was not at all conceived to gain fame; in fact it is the very opposite. It is simply a small section to recognize Scratchers that make this website such a wonderful environment. The medals concept was not my idea, and though it has potential, there are a few issues that should be sorted out. As a whole, though, I feel that most of the users of this site are kind, mature individuals who do not use Scratch simply to gain fame and show off their accomplishments. That is also why I feel that those who stand out as kind, humble people should be rewarded. Thank you so much for your thoughts. They are certainly appreciated!
So, how would these Scratchers get on the front page? If it's users voting, then the famous animation people would get their three turns immediately. People like them on Scratch.

Also, there'll become a big trade business: Vote for me and I'll give you one love-it!

There's already stuff like that. I hope it doesn't increase.

Perhaps a rule of having one month between being posted on the front-page would fix that issue. Scratchers can get on the homepage either by a voting system by the Scratch community or having trustworthy members (including the Scratch Team) post a new member every few days. I do not believe that this section would cause a “big trade business” to begin because if you must bribe other users to help you reach front-page status, you are clearly not the type of person who should be a part of the Homepage-Worthy Scratcher area. Bribery eliminates the purpose entirely, and I believe that most users see that as well. I completely agree with you, though, that it is a problem that needs to stop, and I had hoped that this idea may encourage others to do so. Thank you for your suggestions!

This is a good idea - people seem to like the project, not the person who made it, and sometimes they get a bit disrespectful. Not on purpose, just because the game/animation/thing should have something and the creator doesn't have time to add it.

I feel that the community should be let out of this one (while I still long for the community to get a say in the projects) and instead, leave the Featured Scratchers to the staff. Just like the Featured Projects, Featured Scratchers would have rules and qualifications.

The rules would be pretty similar to Featured Projects - They cannot have so many followers/love-its in total/favs in total, they must not of had any warns recently, and other things I can't list off the top of my head.

Mimicking the Projects, Users will require to be unique or noteworthy. Things such as being part of a collab, making a massive variety of projects (as in games, animations and OS, instead of game A, game B and game B minor), being supportive of other people, listening to people who comment on their projects, and other noteworthy skills I feel a good Scratcher should have.

See, rather than skill or prettyness, I feel Featured Scratchers should be featured for who they are, not what they made. If we like what they make, they belong on Featured Projects.

I support.

Excellent advice! I completely agree with you, kindness is often overshadowed on the website by skill. Perhaps you are right in your suggestion to leave the general public out of deciding who should be placed on the homepage. That way, there will be no bribery, no cheating, and less competition. You are absolutely correct that there would need to be a set of rules to determine who qualifies, but I do believe that they should not be as strict as in Featured Projects. A Scratcher should not be disqualified from being able to be placed on the homepage simply because of large amounts of followers. No one can determine for themselves how many followers they wish to have, and should therefore not be punished because of it. But, the users who are displayed in this section should definitely stand out and be unique. That is the central purpose of this concept! Thank you very much for your advice you're brilliant!

That may be true, but I believe that if you work hard to make Scratch a safe and uplifting environment, you deserve to be recognized! Projects receive so much attention that we often forget how much we appreciate the people who try their hardest to help others and are consistently positive to everyone. That, in my opinion, is the most important contributing factor on this website.
What about how the same people get their projects on the front page over and over and the same for forumers so we wouldn't see much of a change in people, would we?
(geez that was a horribly formed sentence)
I completely agree with you. Many Scratchers do get front-paged repeatedly because they are superior at programming. That is the reason why I suggested including a section for Features Scratchers because you would not need to have incredible skill in that regard. It would simply be determined by your interaction with others; your kindness and willingness to help is what truly matters. You are completely correct in your statement, though, Featured Scratchers should not be repeated over and over, and could even be fairly unnoticed. That is why it is so important that we recognize and award these members!
Superior? To me, I just read that post as “Scratchers who get projects featured are superior and so we need something for the people who have no skill”. That's not what I would want. .-.

Disadvantages: Other scratchers may feel bad… they might think that the featured scratchers are better than them and that they are bad. So, those who are jealous of the featured scratchers might quit for that.

Advantages: It can encourage everyone to be a good scratcher, in order to be featured. After all, a featured project requires a lot of work right? Probably it would also require the Scratcher's best behavior to be featured.

Exactly, I would not like that either. It makes no sense to reward users for doing nothing to better this website, I agree. But that is not the purpose of this concept. So much stress is placed on making the site a positive, safe environment that I believe Scratchers who perform exceptionally well at conducting themselves in a fine manner should receive something back in return. The Homepage Worthy Scratchers section allows individuals who stand out as being kind considerate, active, and willing to be awarded for their genuine efforts.

The users who would be placed in this area of the homepage are not unskilled in any way. They are simply talented in different areas. Thank you for your thoughts!

Yes, that is certainly true! There are advantages and disadvantages in every scenario. But in this particular case, I believe the positive aspects of the concept outweigh the negative! Thank you so much for posting, I do appreciate it!

From the time I've spent using the Scratch website, I have observed many things. Users do incredible things with the software, unbelievable programming ability is demonstrated, and beautiful projects are shown. On the homepage, superior projects are demonstrated for these things, and their popularity skyrockets. But strangely, of all the lovely things to enjoy on this site, it is not the projects that I love the most. It's the people. Brilliant people who are always positive, active, and willing to help. Whether they have amazing programming skill or not, they help others to progress and make Scratch the fantastic site that it is.

I totally agree. I think that too many people are being tested based upon their programming abilities, no matter how unkind they might be. One day, in fact, I decided to check out some of the “recently shared projects” on the front page. I saw some pretty good projects, and I was impressed. I realized that actually the reason why those projects aren't getting enough attention is because they are called “recently shared projects”. Other Scratchers gain the impression that projects under this title are made by new, inexperienced, beginner, bad Scratchers, so they don't ever realize how much effort the creator could have put into their project.

I agree that there should be a “Featured Scratchers” row on the front page, but I also think that the “recently shared projects” row should be replaced with a “Scratchers Who Need More Attention” row. That way, even if the title doen't really fit, it will definitely earn the attention some projects need.

Nice idea! However, using the voting system might be a disadvantage to scratchers with fewer followers, since not as many others know about them.
