Report cloud data glitches here
I'm so frustrated. I have a project where I am trying to save up the sums of the roll of two diced. I've gone through about 3 iterations of this to work around the “You can't save strings or lists to cloud data” - http://scratch.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/12817068/. Our goal is to collect lots of “rolls” to make a point in a 7th grade math class during our statistics unit. And I finally got something to work except…
I want to make this work so that we can embed the project into webpage (http://lakeside-cs.org/scratch/index.html) so folks can do a few rolls and help us out. The problem is if someone else goes to this page and rolls, it goes back to a previous tally. The cloud data isn't saving.
The problem I think I just discovered: You have to be signed in to save cloud data variable. I *just* figured this out trying to go to the page from another machine..
First: that isn't obvious at all, particularly if you want to embed a project. Second is there anything I can do?
Thanks
Lauren

Thanks for the feedback - cloud data is broken on embedded pages. I'll try to fix this as a priority, hopefully within a week.

Outgoing connections to TCP port 531 and TCP port 843. It would be great to be able to debug this. What kind of OS are you on?
OS/browser/etc. doesn't seem to make any difference - I'm normally on Mac (10.6.8), though also Linux (Mint, some pretty old release), and I've also tried briefly from Windows laptop (though didn't get chance to investigate firewall settings on that).
Anyway, thanks for info - when I get some time I'll fire up tcpdump and see what I can track down…
Cool! Let me know if you can find anything. This is a bug I haven't been able to reproduce, and am still not sure what may be wrong.

announcement, we deployed a new version of the Cloud Data server. Most of this is code reorganization, and some performance improvements, so there may be a few glitches in this new version. Please report in this thread if you face any glitches. Remember to include information about your operating system, browser, and a link to your project.Server is going incredibly slow. it took me about a minute to create a cloud var… also deleting a cloud var was also problematic As you may seen in today's
Also, I know that some people have reported slowdown of Cloud variable updates recently. Please report those here as well, especially if you used to get faster speeds, but now Cloud variable updates lag significantly.
[Updated 08/30/2013: Based on your reports, I fixed a bunch of problems. Thanks, and keep more of these reports coming in (still working on the glitches that have been already reported, and are still not fixed). For a list of what changed, check out this forum post: http://scratch.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/14722/ ]

I think it's broken again? But not for everyone. I've even rebooted my PC just to make sure, signed out and back into scratch. I can see 2 other users updating my cloud variables in real time, but I cannot change any of the cloud variable myself such that the change is detected by the other users

I am having problems with cloud variables reverting to previous states.
http://scratch.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/12412515/
The cloud variables in this project have always been glitchy, but reloading the page used to update them to the most recent value. Today I found the variables stuck in an older value, despite me reloading the page. The cloud variable log shows the newer values, but the variable won't update.
I am now having another problem. I cannot create cloud variables in the project editor. I can create normal variables, but upon asking for a cloud variable, I get the pop up message about cloud variables only supporting numbers, and no variable is created. I have no other variables, so I'm not exceeding the cloud variable limit.
Thanks for any help.

Yup, even this simple cloud lock test won't work any more: I think it's broken again…
http://scratch.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/11998908/
First time I tried it, it kept saying it failed to lock - cloud log showed nothing.
After reloading project (several times now) it ‘thinks’ it's working (i.e. it changes the value of the cloud vars locally), but it's still not updating cloud log.
However, projects belonging to others do seem to be working ( eg, here's a simple click test, that was hacked a while ago to show a stupidly large number, but cloud log still shows entries when clicked: http://scratch.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/10081713/ Or another one I found to try: http://scratch.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/10438248/ )
So, maybe it's just a problem affecting your own projects…?

It should be fixed now. Let me know if isn't fixed. Over the weekend, we have been adding a new server to make the site faster, and that broke cloud vars for some people.

I and my entire class of students cannot load our projects. It loads the assets and then freezes. We can load any project in explore, upload from our computers, and start a new one by clicking create. Any suggestions? We're using Chrome (because internet explorer doesn't work at all - will not ‘see inside’). Our school district might be blocking some server address or something, I can get that allowed, but I need to know what to allow.

Cloud data keeps timing out on me, or something like that. If I'm working on my project for much longer than ten minutes, it becomes unresponsive, and I can't edit it. It will appear to edit, then it will revert back to its previous value. Also, occasionally, it will take several numbers off the end of the variable, for no reason. I've had to create some semi-complex scripts to prevent cloud corruption, but they aren't exactly working 100% of the time…
I'm running the latest Chrome, (though it happened in Firefox too), the latest flash, and Windows 7.

My browser / operating system: Windows 7, Microsoft Internet Explorer 10.0, Flash 11.1 (release 102)
When you do click a sprite, it adds one to the count. However, when I'm not doing anything, it just goes from zero to four! Et cetera… I think it goes by 1,2,3,4,5—
Is this just bad coding?
