Put Some Color In That Cat!

When you first make an account on Scratch, you get this boring…… gray…… bleh icon that is very unappealing to the human eye. I suggest that the ST puts some color in the Scratch Cat, making it its usual colors. It would be more attractive.

Cats, and Gobos, and Gigas, oh my!

When you first make a Scratch account, you get this cat. The silhouette of the Scratch Cat. My idea is that when you make an account, you must choose if you want the silhouette of a cat, a nano, a gobo, a giga, a terra, etc. It would put a bit more spice and diversity into Scratch!

I like the idea of character choice, and I do think that the default new scratcher icon is a bit bland.

I made a mockup of the icons idea a while ago - the icons come from this project:

it would also allow you to upload one from your computer when you sign up, that way there would be less people with default icons.

I would definitely support this! One critique though: It needs to say somewhere that you can always change your profile pic after you sign up.

I think it's just a mockup. The ST doesn't have to exactly follow this example

I think this is cool because there could be more variety among new Scratchers profile pictures, and, honestly, they look more professional. This increased variety could also prevent stereotypes of “oh, he as the default cookie cutter silhouette pic, he's probably not advanced.”
All in all, it would usher in more variation and, there would be less clutter in Questions for changing your profile picture.

I don't see why this is needed, as you can change it whenever you want. It would just give you the default, and you could change it later on. However, maybe when you're account is created, a box next to your picture would prompt you to change it. It wouldn't be mandatory though. Semi-support with that in mind.

I would support this, but not support allowing you to upload your own during registration. You can do that really easily just a sec after you register by clicking “Change” on your profile.

heh, nice job on using theChAOTiC's icon pack there :P

Nah.
The only Scratch 1.4 we still have is the normal default icon and these

things. Plus I always forget updates and think that the scratcher is, well professional because those pics look really professional.
