"Recommended Projects" Bar on Home Page

Imagine this: You're on youtube, and you see a video on the sidebar. You click on it, and it's by a person you aren't subscribed to. So you subscribe to them, because you like the video. Why not put something like that on scratch? It would give more use to the “tags” functionality, and give other scratchers more publicity.

So basically have a ‘recommended projects’ bar below or beside the project you're on, that picks from a pool of projects with similar tags?

Yeah I'd support that.

Support, but it shouldn't just work by tags because project can only have 3 and they are normally generic stuff like “game”.

Yeah I thought of that too, and some projects aren't even tagged period.

Perhaps grab the results from a ‘people who viewed this project also viewed’ basis?

Of course then we'd have to add a whole new view tracking system, which is pretty complicated in of itself.

Good idea. It could also work by projects that are in the same studios as the one you are viewing, but then it would have to be able to filter out AEs.

No support. I am on youtube since I started uploading my music there, and that bar just annoys me so much… it hardly knows what I want to see…

Truth. Sometimes I'll accidentally click on a video I don't care about at all, and the next thing you know Youtube's screaming at me to watch more of their videos.

What if you'd loved an art project just because it was cool, but you're not an art person? You'd get spammed with warrior cat artwork and artist stuff! And think of the logistics. It'd have to sort through thousands and thousands of recent projects any time the page reloads.

I'd love to support, but I don't think this would work.

Which is why doing it on a basis of ‘people who played this project also played:“ would work much better.

That way, if you’re on a warrior cat/doctor who slashfic artbook or whatever the children do these days, it will suggest other ”art" like it.

But if you're on a pen-based physics engine, you'd get other equally cool projects (Or so you'd hope)

I'm sure there's an algorithm that would fit scratch well, it's not like they're gonna copy/paste youtube's algorithm over or anything.

I support this idea, but i have a similar suggestion. What about a “Recommended Scratchers” bar as well? it could look at the Scratchers you follow and suggest other Scratchers that people who follow them also follow.

I support, but I tnink “Similar projects” better then “Recommended projects”.
This is will best way for exploring Scratch by new Scratchers.

Support, but I think maybe there should be something for users as well, like if a user makes platformers, their profile would appear in the reccomended.
