I was smart and read the posts. To me it seems you want a certain set of projects, probably picked by ST, that a scratcher can vote on without seeing the scratcher? That's just terrible for the person who made the project. His/her project would get viewed without notice who he/she was. Seems to me your posts needs some cleaning up…

NO SUPPORT:

You kind of ruin the point of checking out a person who made a project, therefore he/she won't get ANY benefit from his/her project making it a cool but useless (in a sense of gaining) thing. Your idea sounds great and all, but it's VERY rough and should have been thoroughly thought through (those ‘T’ words) instead of having a very rough idea that has a lot of questioning.

(if my post was offensive in anyway to you (judging your ability, your ‘smartness’) I never meant it truly I say you're pretty smart of thinking up this idea)

That isn't what I meant.
What I meant is that any person can choose projects that they would curate if they were curator.
People view these sets of projects that people submitted but the name of the person who made the set isn't visible (To avoid popularity battles). The name of the person who made the project is visible.
People vote on the set they like best.
The person who has though most votes on their set becomes front page curator.
They then curate on projects as any normal curator would.

Recently I haven't been too happy with the projects being picked by some curators (not going to say names).
I understand that the ST has been picking the curators for quite awhile now…
but perhaps scratchers could make the choice?

I do think if scratchers were to just flat-out vote for someone who applied that would be biased toward popular scratchers.
So perhaps people submit the projects they would like to have be curated… then people vote on the set, and whoever's set got the most votes gets to be curator?

I haven't completely thought this through, so have you any ideas?

I like the idea, but I was thinking that the voters don't know who the curator-to-be is, and only Scratchers can vote (cause u can just make 50 new accounts randomly and vote). Anyways, support!

I don't really think it matters what gets curated, the current curator is sharing with the community what they like and what they think is good. When I was curator I curated a couple of projects which might well be described as “basic” and didn't have amazing graphics but I still loved the projects. I curated a fairly basic platformer game for the reason the main character was a snail. I think that was cool because it wasn't like most platformers where the main character is a dot or a ball.

As soon as we allow voting and stuff it will become the same as “What the Community is Loving” and we will lose the amazing uniqueness that curators bring.

I agree with you on that @Haudio, but like @sibelusy (I think that's it) said, it's a lot more complicated than the current system. I've noticed with some curators it seems like they have no guidelines and they curate a project by someone with hundreds of followers.

But we wouldn't be voting for every project. We would just be voting for a few to get a feel for what the curator would choose. Then they get to choose anything they want no voting involved.

The main reason I came up with this is so that there can be some way that people can make a difference with the curated projects because I've been pretty disappointed by them in the last month or two

However, I do see some logistical problems - many people want to be curators, so how would the typical scratcher go through all the curators and/or their submitted projects? Typically, people would tend to go to see the curator submissions of popular scratchers/projects made by popular scratchers, since they don't want to have to filter through all the “bad” curators.

Also, the scratch community tends to lean toward certain types of projects more than others, such as games, comedy/animations, ones made by popular scratchers, and simplistic ones, even though other types of projects may be just as good or better. So this may end up placing all votes on curators who submit certain types of projects, which eliminates variety. Additionally, people may use this tactic of submitting these types of projects as a method of easy fame or attention.

Lastly, the whole idea of having people vote on projects is similar to a top-loved section. You may argue that there would be more underviewed projects getting top-voted, but as I pointed out in my first paragraph, scratchers might not want to vote on an unpopular scratcher or one with unpopular submissions.

Nevertheless, I like the concept, and would definitely like to see it develop into something real.

Feel free to point out any logical flaws or suggestions to these potential problems.
As per sibeliusy.

No support.

People have different opinions on projects, it would be unfair if the person who was trying to curate got no votes. And people might vote for a Scratcher because they are popular.

But then an application wouldn't get noticed, and the person will never be able to be curator.

How I think it should work:

The ST picks three people. People select the curator, and the curator with the most votes wins. That person is replaced by a new person, so the other people have another chance.

Your Idea Is Great, Too ! My Idea Was That That The Project With Highest Loves & Favs Will Be Chosen As Curator& Then, His Project Would Be Removed From The Studio. Then, The Current Project With Highest No. Of Loves & Favs Will Win, Like That I Wanted To Say

The person's name wouldn't be visible so it wouldn't be based on popularity

The point of curators is so that people who may or may not always get what they think are great projects and spread them to the whole of Scratch. If it was a democracy it would not work as the projects chosen would be the most popular before hand so that they would not need curating or other projects that need it more would not get it. Plus people like me would rig it. Although the current system does not always get the best Scratch can offer, and I consider flawed, a vote would be worse and ultimately ruin the curator section.

I have a better idea. Instead of a specific curator, why don't we suggest projects to a certain studio. And the scratch team features 5 of them every 2 days. Now these would be picked by 5 or 6 “curators” who rotate every month or so. And the projects have to be approved by the majority of them.

I mean, I was “discovered” through curation. Before TRNT 1 was curated, I had 15 followers. Now I have 240+ …

The best choice is to just let people in studios that you trust won't let people that don't but those projects. You have to invite the people that won't to that too.

That's not the kind of curator we're talking about lol.

I totally agree. I have seen some incredibly crappy projects being curated (one was LITERALLY an animation that took 30 frames from a movie and played them on loop). I also see so many bad projects being curated because the maker of the project is friends with the curator. The system is really flawed.

A few things that I suggest:
Curators CANNOT curate projects made by scratchers they follow or by scratchers who follow them (gets rid of the friend problem)
Curators MUST have projects approved by ST or community before curation
Community members can vote on projects they want curated
Restrictions on views/loves/faves a project can have before curation.
Also the community should be able to remove a curator from office if they're doing poorly. Also the curator should be able to step down.
As a result of that last one, there should be a backup curator and a backup backup curator.

Feel free to disagree with what I'm saying! I love debate (just keep it civil)!

Yes, but then the most popular scratcher would be voted in rather than the best candidate for the job. Or the flashiest and fanciest application rather than somebody who would be good at it.
