Scratch Moderation
The Scratch Moderation has been going downhill lately. At least 3 in the projects on the front trending page have been removed because of mass reporting. I've started a petition to stop this and get better mods. You can sign here (https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/1137380668/). There have also been wrongful incidents with muting scratchers. For example, one scratcher got muted for an hour because he wanted to say that he didn't have deskcaaard. Please get this problem fixed soon.

That private messaging website is not allowed to be said at all. Anyway, those projects being taking down were probably taking down for legitimate reasons, as a human moderator decides.
Scratch can't just get better mods. It's a non-profit with wages to pay, and it's in a state with a high minimum wage. The moderation is great for their capability.

How is that even fair? Milk clicker is on trending for absolutely no reason, but stickman adventures gets mass reported by a bunch of 6 years olds that have nothing better to do than ruin someone's day.

We don't even know it was mass reported. The creator hasn't shared the notification he got, so he could very well be misleading people. How is that even fair? So you're saying you support all of these good projects being banned, then?

I don't support good projects getting taken down for non-legitimate reasons. I do support projects getting taken down for legitimate reasons, even if they are the best, if they have violence, they should be taken down. So you're saying you support all of these good projects being banned, then?

That's fair. What about stickman adventures? that did not have a drop of violence in it, yet it got taken down.

moderating a website like scratch is really hard. when i was younger, i used to agree when people said stuff like “scratch's moderation sucks”, but i think you have to look at it from the scratch team's perspective.
the scratch foundation is a non profit. their primary goal is to keep scratch free, and available to everyone.
scratch as a platform is extremely open, and quite unrestricted all things considered - especially since it caters to children, and by definition, lets you create anything you want. as a result, they need to be super duper careful in how moderation works, all on what amounts to practically a shoe-string budget compared to the user count.
i don't know the specific cases you're referring to, but automoderation is really important. the scratch team can't realistically review every single project on the site, nor can they respond to reports within minutes (likely even if they had 10x the number of moderators). therefore, it's really important that if enough scratchers report a project as inappropriate, it gets taken down (and then reviewed by the scratch team). otherwise, children could be exposed to inappropriate content, which would be very very bad (not just for them, but also could hurt scratch's ability to continue carrying out their mission)
so yes, scratch moderation isn't perfect, but i think it's actually pretty good when you consider the constraints. it's so much better that ‘mass-reported’ projects get removed for a few hours, than bad projects being up until the scratch team reviews them.
edit: also, to prevent drama and gossiping, etc. the scratch team doesn't explain why projects are deleted to anyone other than the project creator - there's lots of reasons projects can be removed (eg. copying someone else's work without credit), and so it's not always that the projects are inappropriate

Scratch Moderation
https://youtu.be/bt6fjfIDOgM?si=EDoQZpfESW59ri3DYouTube videos are often not a reliable source of information- remember: There's an entire video about it.
1. The goal of the people making them is often to make money and get famous from it
2. Angry people finding sympathy from the videos they watch increases likes and subscribers
So their motivation isn't necessarily to tell the truth, and they don't: they complain about criticism being always a good thing, which isn't always true. “This game sucks because the movement is bad and it's too hard” is just rude more than anything- removing the “this game sucks” part and adding some ways to help improve it is constructive criticism, and is allowed. It's insulting someone because you don't think their project is good that is against the rules.
Also, you want to make the moderation better (although there is a large argument to be had that it was never broken in the first place)? Petitions don't help- the Scratch Team doesn't care too much about petitions to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place in their opinion- but you can help.
