but… why? Other things I've discovered: the new blocker uses dns, they make all images have to have a creative commons license

Also, why? What does making all images need to be licensed under a CC license achieve, exactly? I can understand it being useful for when you need to use an image, but there are cases where:They enforce it using safesearch (i think) so it depends on the search engine (and this is also the reason why duckduckgo is blocked)But how would that be enforced (if it's blocking non-CC licenses)? they make all images have to have a creative commons license
Also, doesn't that mean that the Google homepage would be blocked (google.com)?
1. it would be considered fair use, such as if it's being used educationally
2. the image allows you to use it that way, it's just not under a CC license.

Also they don't use dns (i have no idea where i got that from), they're using a specific web policy thing that you can do on ipads

My IT uses an extension called Securly, which seems all cute fine, and dandy when they sell the teachers, students, AND PARENTS AND THE SCHOOLS data.
IT IS NOT COPPA safe.

(#1806)You could try to petition the IT dept (or principal) to use a different, better software. Just an idea, idk if it will work.

(#1806)I think you should inform your school (or your parents to talk with the school about it).

YouTube will not let you use an ad blocker there, you cannot watch videos with one because the video player will disable. YouTube suggests instead either buying a YouTube premium subscription to remove ads the fair way or to just let the ads roll and deal with it.(#1806)You could try to petition the IT dept (or principal) to use a different, better software. My school used Pear Assessment (formerly Edulastic) for tests- and that sells My IT uses an extension called Securly, which seems all cute fine, and dandy when they sell the teachers, students, AND PARENTS AND THE SCHOOLS data.everything about us.
IT IS NOT COPPA safe.
Arguably the worst part is that I live in Massachusetts- which has no data protection laws that would help with that, so the only protection we have is COPPA, which isn't particularly useful when most of the people using it in my school district are over 13, and therefore don't get protection from COPPA.

we cant be too grateful to this COPPA thing, remember its the one not letting us sign up for certain websites.

If I was under 13, I think I'd prefer giving up access to certain websites rather than a company selling my home address on the internet. we cant be too grateful to this COPPA thing, remember its the one not letting us sign up for certain websites.

if you were under 13 and i were you, i would realize that not all websites are a scam, a fraud, and a dirty dirty scum-of-the-earth virus. If I was under 13, I think I'd prefer giving up access to certain websites rather than a company selling my home address on the internet. we cant be too grateful to this COPPA thing, remember its the one not letting us sign up for certain websites.

Yes, I know that. But most kids under 13 are stupid. They don't know what they're doing, they'd gladly enter their parent's CC details if they were promised free robux or whatever slop they are being fed. Most parent don't care about what their kids are being exposed to on the Internet. And that's bad. That's why this law exists. I may be wrong though, I'm not from the States.if you were under 13 and i were you, i would realize that not all websites are a scam, a fraud, and a dirty dirty scum-of-the-earth virus. If I was under 13, I think I'd prefer giving up access to certain websites rather than a company selling my home address on the internet. we cant be too grateful to this COPPA thing, remember its the one not letting us sign up for certain websites.

im not from the other countries, but here in the states there are like 5 websites people go to and thats basically it. sure you'll find a minicommunity here and a microcommunity there, a blog here and an alternative news source there, but barely anyone is there.Yes, I know that. I might also have quite possibly the best school IT in the world.
They have blocked (on the Chromebooks):
Other restrictions
My current solution is this:
Other methods I don't use:
Any other questions about the school IT?
They have blocked (on the Chromebooks):
- Any website that they don't like, one blocker on the WiFi (ContentKeeper) and one on the computer (GoGaurdian)
- Specifically, most free hosting sites are blocked
- And much more!
Other restrictions
- GoGaurdian for monitoring (figured out how to disable this in 7th grade)
- Chrome browser with policies (no dino game, no extensions) A small handful of extensions are available for download, we also have extensions already downloaded. More than half of the extensions available will be “discontinued in the near future due to changes in policies”, including ContentKeeper for some reason… Most of them are lame, like “DyslexicBold font” which changes all text to the dyslexicbold font.
- No admin access
- Fandom’s Apple Inc wiki (come on) and Peppa pig wikis
- Can’t download any apps on Google Play except for a small handful. None of them are good except for Minecraft Education. And they have ScratchJR? Come on ScratchJR why couldn’t you allow access to the real one?
My current solution is this:
- I don’t use any
Other methods I don't use:
- Reinstalling Windows on your PC allows you to get admin access, it's almost undetectable (never used)
- Run websites off of .html files (occasionally used)
- Phone WiFi (somehow this can unblock sites) (never used)
- Tor on Windows for bypass (never used)
Any other questions about the school IT?

“5 websites and that's it” is crazy. The US literally has half a million websites on Google Sites, hosts around 60% of all websites worldwide, and is the third country with most internet traffic, only beaten by China and India. It's not just 5 websites and that's it. im not from the other countries, but here in the states there are like 5 websites people go to and thats basically it. sure you'll find a minicommunity here and a microcommunity there, a blog here and an alternative news source there, but barely anyone is there.
Anyways, yeah, with a country this big and with so much traffic it make sense to have laws about what companies can't do with minors' data. Most of them just don't want to get their asses sued, so they just ask “hey are you under 13? we won't check this, but you agree to be truly transparent on your age! under 13? sorry mate, try in a few years” and problem solved.
