the crazy chasm!

Hey!! All that sounds great! <3

Unfortunately I do have to inform you guys that I'm going to be quite busy for a bit, and might not be able to respond until Wednesday afternoon. I'm good with anything you guys come up with, so feel free to go ahead with planning and I'll resume helping out once I get back :D See you then! <3

Color Palette
The color palette looks pretty good; do y'all mind if I practice using it a bit before we finalize it, though? I typically like to do a few recolors of stuff to test out how well a palette works in practice. ^^

Canva
Okay, I'm not on a device where I can access my Canva account right now; I'll edit this bit when I get back to my regular one–

Spreadsheet
How are we planning on setting up the spreadsheet for word-adding? I can get going on the formatting/mathy bits right away if you want! I just don't know how much detail we're planning on having on there; is it just a simple grid of camper name x word entries? Or will there be camper info and/or word category info on there, too, which I should leave row(s) open for? (If it helps at all, I can show you how I format my personal word-adding spreadsheet so you guys can tell me whether that sort of column-type formatting will work for what you had in mind.)

here is the first part of the description! what do you guys think?

◍ the chasm - ᵃ ˢᵗʳᵃⁿᵍᵉ, ⁱⁿᵒʳᵍᵃⁿⁱᶜ ʷᵒʳˡᵈ ˢᵗᵘᶜᵏ ᵇᵉᵗʷᵉᵉⁿ ʳᵉᵃˡⁱᵗʸ ᵃⁿᵈ ⁿᵒᵗʰⁱⁿᵍⁿᵉˢˢ ◍

ɪɴᴛʀᴏ

it's been a long time since you've felt this strange, this out of place…
yawning, you awake.

what is this strange world you're in?

you are surrounded by strange objects, some floating around aimlessly, others clinging to the ground like it's their lifeline. what are you to do now? As you look around, you are approached by three equally strange beings. nothing about them seems human-like, yet nothing about them isn't human-like. there is no other way to describe them but abstract.

'the chasm seems to have new visitors,' one of the says in a silvery wisp of a voice.
another shakes their head, that is if they have one. ‘strange beings from another land.’
'they must find their way out if they can,' the last one smirks.
'but what about the wonders of the chasm? are they not to be overlooked?' the second one interrupts.
'their journey is yet to begin, and we are mere characters in theirs.'
'traveler, you may find a way out, if you wish.'

with that, they fade into the shadows and you are left to ponder what to do.

also, what do you guys think of qotds, aotds and currency? i think we could implement them into the story! also, I was thinking, just like how Bangsian had a handbook rule each day just for fun, to lighten up the mood maybe we could so something like random object you see each day?

I love the thumbnail, I think it's good to go! <3

Also, I pulled some colours from the thumbnail to create this colour palette: https://coolors.co/090c2c-2b2913-505049-798a5f-c4ced0
It's pretty similar to the one Em proposed, but I changed some of the accent colours to match the thumbnail.

I think qotds would be a great idea :eyes: as for currency, hmmm, since bi-fi is a chasm of nothingness and everything, a physical object for currency might not make sense SKSKSK maybe something like shards or fragments that campers find floating in the void? Or maybe since floating in a void is a bit similar to floating in space, campers could collect stars, which feel wrong and right at the same time for our theme ^^

as for something like Bangsian's handbook rules, I was thinking about that too, but I'm not sure how we might implement that  Maybe we could find quotes and put them in code. giving campers a code to decipher each day would fit with the abstract theme we've got going on

side note: this may be a dumb question but all i can think of when i see aotd is album of the day and I don't think that's what you mean SKKSKS what do you have in mind? /lh

I love the color palette so Wild, if you like it too I can turn it in too! I like the idea of fragments for currency because it's vague enough for our theme but still a currency <3

aotd means activity of the day! so a writing prompt, or an activity for the campers to do that would give them currency <3 I think the quotes would be cool but making the campers decipher them might not be the best as the handbook rules were really only there for fun, and I was thinking maybe just a random adventure that the campers have each day could be put up there, like a silly little story, or something that they discover each day that intrigues them!

we should start brainstorming a bit more into our storyline and what we're going to have the campers doing, so what do you guys think about what I had said before with the campers trying to find their way out of the chasm by visiting different parts of it and trying to help people and objects with their own little side quests that ultimately builds up into something bigger?

also concerning cabin relationships, if anyone has asked us to be neutral neutrals, I've just accepted since I presume that's what we're just going to do most of the time, but illu-fi has asked us to be enemies, I was wondering if you guys were fine with that or you wanted to just stay neutrals with everyone? Cool, ok! If you have some ideas for little adventures or stories that could happen, feel free to let me know so that I can have an idea for what to brainstorm XD It might be cool to describe random fandom objects or inside jokes floating around the abyss, so things like:

As you enter the chasm, you narrowly dodge a crate of mangoes hurtling out of the darkness. (first day of camp)

Pieces of paper of all sorts of colours and shapes litter the air. Perhaps they might soon be of use… (day before cabin wars)

An old, romantic song rings through the abyss, although there are no speakers in sight. (Valentine's day)

We could make other objects things that we like, like in my case references to musicals and random books and songs that I enjoy <3 You and Wild could also contribute some things from fandoms that you're in! It could help us and campers find things we're mutually interested in :D

iinspirqtion wrote:

I think it's a solid idea  For challenges, do we want to have them do like writing challenges or solve puzzles? We could also do both I suppose :eyes:

iinspirqtion wrote:

Hmm, at this point I think that we're going to have to explain if we're only enemies with Illu-Fi and neutrals with everyone else, so if Mouse and their team is willing, I think it might be better to be neutrals ^^ As for Action's hostile neutrals, that would probably be fine! Since hostile neutrals is kind of an artificial category of neutrals, we could just go with them being neutrals, and they could treat us as hostile if they like ^^

That's what I was imagining for pfps too :eyes: Unfortunately I have absolutely no experience with abstract art SKSKSK, so if Wild or you would like to do it, then that would be fine! Otherwise, I might be able to trace abstract designs from the internet and put them into matching frames and backgrounds <3

I think this is super cool and definitely a great idea to go for for the random object of the day! If you're good with that then we can just start brainstorming some of these kinds of prompts <3 We can also just rename one of the sections of the sheets so we can just have a collection of them there for good use!

For storyline I think it would be cool if we could do a mix of both, maybe if we're doing 4 different side quests (let's just call them that for now) two of them could be writing-related and 2 could be puzzle-related. And if you think 4 is a good number, we just start thinking of zany random activities to happen out of nowhere, which is really nice with how our theme works!

telling mouse and ris about the relations!

I'd be up to doing the pfps if wild can't do them but yes Wari that would be really great if you could maybe experiment with just abstract shapes and colors for the background that the campers could pick from! Maybe we could have just like 5 different color and shape variations if that's not too much for you to draw? I'll see what I can do with the pfps (aka I'll try to experiment a bit since I also have no idea how to do abstract art but will try XD)

Color Palette
I've officially messed around with the color palettes, both the original one and the newer one Wari proposed, and I think I like the original one best because of the contrast of the “smoky black” and “pale purple,” although I really like the “silver” in the newer one; maybe swap the pale purple out for the silver? In my opinion, the “rosy brown” is nicer than the “drab dark brown,” but the “Davy's gray” is okay, too. I could see an arrangement using the gray instead of the rosy brown working well, although I haven't tested that version out myself.

Cabin Description
Honestly, what you've established so far sounds amazing; I don't really have much to critique! I like the lack-of-capitalization typing quirk a lot. I assume that's a style choice that we'd be playing into when we roleplay and such within our storyline?
Here's my introduction for the description, modeled after the format of Wari's:
wild ◍ they.them ◍ hello. call me Wild. the echo of your thoughts called me here; perhaps you would like to chat for a while? it would be quite interesting to experience new perspectives and ideas! there are so many fascinating things to learn about; let me know if you want to hear about my favorite things– dinosaurs, biology, and fandoms. I'll be around. well, inasmuch as the concept of ‘around’ applies here, anyhow…

Matching Pfps
One of the things I did while testing the color palettes was making some possible pfp sketches! They match the “abstract shapes formed into a face” idea that Em said. I'll post them on Canva when I get my art program up again, and if you guys like the design, I'm willing to make more for the whole cabin! If so, should I make personalized ones for each camper, having them fill out a form about what they want their appearance to be, or should I throw together a pfp creator with mix-and-match options? I've had good experiences with both in my past cabins, and I do have practice coding mix-and-match creators, so I know I can do it.

QOTDs/AOTDs/Currency
In my personal experience, keeping up with daily prompts is sometimes a challenge for both the campers doing them and the (co)leaders updating them. I like the idea, but we'd have to be sure to have someone online and able to update them at a consistent time every day. If that time is midnight UTC, I would be available most weekdays to update them, but someone else would likely have to handle weekends, as I'm not always online at that time. We probably should coordinate schedules?
I think I prefer AOTDs over QOTDs; there's a wider range of activities available, and they feel less like an imitation of Main Cabin dailies. We can do fun puzzles and send the campers on little quests!
As Wari brought up, physical currency doesn't make a ton of sense for the sort of nebulous abstraction that is the Chasm. Maybe the currency could be an abstract concept, or some variant thereof? Or, if the currency is required for the campers to complete the aim of the storyline, which I think is simply “escape the Chasm,” then maybe the currency can be something signifying making order out of the chaos. (Is there a word for anti-entropy?) In fact, I was thinking that for the storyline, the goal is some form of organizing the randomness into creation, as that's symbolic of the creative process of writing as a whole, and fits with the goal-reaching part of our cabin atmosphere. Maybe the campers have to build a mini-universe that acts as a portal (or portals) to other places, and they can do this by completing the sort of challenges/writing prompts/puzzles/activities we already discussed. Just an idea, though!

Obligatory Fandom Reference
I don't know if either of you has heard of Homestuck, but the concept of the Chasm is eerily similar to that of the Furthest Ring, in that it's a sort of primordial nothingness that exists outside of other universes where the normal rules of time and space don't apply. This isn't super relevant to cabin planning, or… anything really, but I thought it's kind of a cool resemblance heheh >w<

I like what you have for the ideas of the color palette, would it be alright if you were to send us a revised version of the palette just to make it easier since you have more of a vision about what you're talking about than we are, so that would be nice to see because then we could finalize the palette and submit it to the hosts <3

thanks for the info about the description, yep I was going for a bit of a mysterious vibe with the no caps for most of the description!

Ooh I can't wait to see your drawings! In my experience (aka last session) having a pfp creator was great because all three of us could have a say in what accessories should be included, what background colors, etc. but ofc it takes more work before the session but after that you won't have to worry about taking orders or things like that, and it helps have most of the active campers feel part of something as orders can take time and with a project everyone can choose their own pfp whenever they want!

for the daily prompts like random object/moment of the day, it wouldn't be too hard to do as last session I was able to update them every single day at around 12:00 am UTC so if we were just to plan those silly little stories I think it would just be a nice addition!

So if we all agree on activities of the days, we should probably start brainstorming some stuff for that?

So as a cabin are we going to have a focused storyline or should we just have silly little quests every now and then?

actually, thinking back on it, I don't think currency is very necessary here, unless we want to give the campers more prizes, but we could also just be a pretty chill silly cabin if you guys don't mind either! but if you want to, I think we could go with something like implementing it into our storyline <3

I also like the fact that there's no space or time happening in the realm, so maybe we could also use that somehow?

Storyline:
a mix of writing and puzzle-related prompts sounds good to me! I think it would be great to have at least one of the writing prompts be a collaborative story or RP, since that has been so fun in past cabins I've been in <3 The other writing prompt could be something about encouraging campers to write abstractly (like non-traditional forms of prose that make you “read between the lines” to figure out the true story) or with the characteristics of bi-fi (absurdism, bizarre worlds).

Currency:
yeah I agree, we might want to focus on being a bit more laid-back and goofy, since it is a bit difficult to think of a use for the in-cabin currency :'D we could focus on encouraging campers to complete main-cabin weeklies and dailies instead :eyes:

Matching PFPs
If Wild's gonna make them, I'm good with that! A pfp creator in my experience might be the best way to go, since it lets campers have a bit more flexibility with less effort on the artist's part.

Cabin colours
Your ideas sound interesting, Wild :eyes: Would you mind incorporating them into a copy of the current cabin thumbnail so we can see what it looks like in practice?

I think I've responded to everything that's up for discussion right now let me know if i missed something SKKSK

Also, I'd like to let you guys know that I've got a lot of work that's suddenly piled on me, and I might not get to be super active until at least Thursday </3 I'll keep reading what you guys put, and I hope to get back to contributing soon! <3

To focus our planning, it might be good to put up a checklist of what's been resolved and what still needs to be done We can start dividing up tasks from there, since things have changed a bit since the beginning of planning <3

great! so we have an idea of the storyline and here are our ideas for the 4 that we'll have

- 1 collaborative story/rp (I've found that rps are a lot better because they don't take up too much of a person's time in one day and it just helps let every single camper participate!)
- 1 writing prompt related to abstractness and writing in a way that doesn't conform with traditional rules (using different genres like bi-fi or slipstream, which was actually the cabin I wanted if it wasn't too vague)
- 1 puzzle (I have an idea for this, maybe a scavenger hunt where campers have to go through other cabins in a certain order to end in one specific cabin as they collect clues from each cabin?)
- 1 puzzle (maybe a riddle of some sorts, or a profile search?)

what do you guys think of that?

So how are we going to reach these different milestones? I've found that a word goal is pretty helpful, but maybe incorporating some of you ideas Wari (when you talked about alternate ways we could encourage campers without using currency), we could have like everyone needs to do 30 dailies along with 2 weeklies in total to unlock the next part of the storyline or something like that, and we could have a project where campers could report what they've done, and leaders can also help out with that too!

since we've basically got a good idea of what we're going to doing with bi-fi, here's a checklist of basically everything that should do before the start of camp:

word adding studio (I will make one and then we can just all add on the sheets and I'll edit the studio) (not done)

bi-fi cabin (done)

matching pfps (wild) (not done)

activities (everyone) (not done)

cabin guide (everyone) (not done)

random object of the day/what are we calling this? (everyone) (not done)

aotds (not done)

so a few more questions before we start, some confirmation on the random object of the day and aotds? and should we make a cabin guide?

other than that I will create the word adding studio and we can start making a thumb for that too!

oooh those sound fun! one note about the scavenger hunts though, they can be a bit hard to coordinate, since it requires a lot of people to be active, including our campers, ourselves, and other leaders  maybe we can ask other cabins to put like symbols or small clues in their descriptions that campers have to find? that way they don't have to be active waiting for our campers to appear

or maybe for the scavenger hunt we can have campers tag-team to complete activities in each of the cabins or smth :eyes: then after every activity they complete we can tell them which cabin to go to next

ooh interesting :eyes: for those who prefer to focus on their own writing, we could also have alternates for those goals, like writing 3000 words toward your own goals could substitute for a weekly, and 300 words counts for a daily <3 after all, dailies and weeklies are meant to supplement our own writing goals, not necessarily replace them, and all words written count for points at the end of the session!

And the checklist looks good! <3 I'll contribute some more random objects that I've brainstormed:

the scent of clover wafts through the air… (st. patrick's day: march 17)

you dodge a loud squawking and fluttering as a flock of penguins swims through the air above your head… (i like penguins lol)

paper planes litter the ground… you pick one up and send it sailing into the sky… (random thought i had)
