This is the forum where we will be chatting; hopefully the other people from the competition don’t find this.

BTW - MarsChompsVenus, if we can, we should keep the posts decently long, as to not look as if we are spamming the forums.
But if we need to say like “yes” it’s fine, after all this is the “Collaborationtopic area (I have no idea what the proper term is ;-; )

That's probably true! And why do you keep turning on and off that italics and underlines and bold? I mean, it makes visual emphasis, but it's a lot! And

Based off of your lunch time, I'd assume you're in MST or PST timezone, probably in california or washington state or colorado, but that's just a guess based on the time you eat lunch. Oh well.

So my idea for the game jam was a sort of actual survival game, where you have to build stuff and chop down trees and maybe fight monsters and find food and mine ores and stuff.

I've whipped up a quick prototype, and am wondering whether you could make the background.
As in a couple of different mountainscapes with trees on them, wildernessy stuff, that will be a basic parallax in the background. Feel free to redo any of my other art though!

(FYI I think we should keep it vector, not bitmap)

Alright, back! And BTW - If you really want to know I’m in CST, but it doesn’t matter too much.

And extra note: We have to keep the game Mobile-Friendly, because I’m on an iPad.
Also: I feel like your average survival game would be done a lot, and I have an idea to counter that, though it may not be similar to your idea. I probably would have done so if I wasn’t on an iPad…but Mobile-Controls with joysticks are really annoying on Scratch. :I

Final Note: I generally only do that font editing thing for other original posts, or for large posts, to make it easier to skim, and less of an annoyance to read.

I’m checking out your prototype now; I forgot to add that to the post.

I just had an idea!

-You know Tetris?
-You know Catan?

Let’s combine them together, and make it single-player.
Strategy PLUS Survival!

And by “Catan,” I meant a kingdom/city builder, like with war camps and stuff.
With…umm, what’ it called? Ah! Trading of resources, like gold->any,3 for 1->any.

And then upgrades are produced the same way.

Check out “Rivals for Catan” for what I’m talking about, that sort of thing…but different.

I have another idea!

Remake “Tic-Tactic,” on itch . “io” (can’t send link, sorry, but remove the spaces & quotes.)

Or…”D** in the Dungeon”
That one’s cool…
(It’s a pun)

What if it was a grid-based organism that had to survive against a hoard of viruses? Strategy, but mainly expansion and upgrades to deal damage. After we get the main system working, it would be super easy to add more content. Note here: it would need to be stamped, and we wouldn’t be able to keep it vector, if we want to add stuff quickly, just to impress the person with the amount of content we have.

-Also, if you’ve seen my first idea, the Tetris one with Catan, then please note that it would look best in 3D, though I’m working on an object/model based pen engine, so we could finish that and then make the game (note that my engine is currently 2D, though it can easily be converted to support 3D, all we’d have to add is the math…and a tri filler)

Ohh I have a good idea. You could make a game like ooga booga on Roblox, basically working from caveman to medieval, OR, make an evolution type game where you are an animal and keep evolving working from bacteria to animal.

You've both got A LOT of ideas! I think the catan strategy is interesting, although possibly a little too complicated for the time we have at the moment. ( A month.)

We might need to make something slightly simple than such a big strategy game! Also, could you elaborate on the grid thing?

I also recommend checking out the bits by @the__games . it is a simulation of bacteria

Yeah, I agree with your point on the fact that we only have a month.

About the grid thing:

-You are an organism…or at least like the brain.
-Anyways: You fight off viruses & bacteria, almost like a tower defense, only the enemies come straight at you, instead of a pre-set trail.

-You can grow your organism size (eg. more cells), upgrade & specialize certain cells, and do things like that.
-We could add bosses, Roguelike gameplay (eg. randomized rooms, for varied ways to play, and/or choose between 3 randomized upgrades at a new level)

-Speaking of which!
LEVELS:
Gives player a sense of progression, AND allows a perfect time for a BIG upgrade, for the whole organism (all the cells)!

I can brainstorm more, but this is it so far.

Note: It might seem like a lot, but to be honest, a month is a decently long time when you don’t have to make preset levels. And also note that we can scrap the idea of different rooms, if we need to, but it wouldn’t be too hard, as there isn’t much interaction with walls, other than enemies having to move around them. We could just focus on more enemy types if we need to, and scrap that if we decide it’s better for the game & the time limit.

It's where you have to defend your town hall.

In science we are learning about Eukaryotes, where the cells have a nucleus (second defense), so bad bacteria and such cannot trespass and mess up the cell's dna.

We could do a game like that, where you control a Eukaryote and you keep upgrading it for defense against viruses.
