the crazy chasm!

Bi-fi planning | SWC March 2025

hey wari and wild <33 welcome to the bi-fi chasm! Honestly I'm so pumped to be here because this is such a fun idea I've had for a while and I just can't wait for it to actually become a cabin!!! You guys seem so amazing and this is going to be the few months where we can get to know each other and have fun planning as I know it's going to be such a great time! I've made a to-do list of the things we need to do so it's easier to see, and we should just get started on working!

To-do List:
- Figure out a theme |❌
- Figure out colours | ❌
- Figure out cabin relationships | ❌
- Cabin | ❌
- Thumbnail | ❌
- Storyline | ❌
- Cabin Guide | February 25th (if we're doing this this is the latest it should be done)
- Figure out adding words | ❌
- Description | ❌ (I'd like to work on this by myself, but I'll be sharing a few rough drafts once I'm done!)
- Matching PFPS /Project/ (If we're doing this) | ❌

T H E M E:
So I'll just put what I wrote in my app as the baseline of the storyline and we can start brainstorming from there:

As the campers awake from a deep sleep, they find themselves in a strange surreal world, with random objects and figures floating around aimlessly. Then, they meet the leaders, who, similar to the objects, seem to be a bit distant. Their whole bodies are a collection of abstract art, and they speak in riddles. The campers are thoroughly confused, wondering if this is a dream, reality, or something in between, but the hints the leaders give are not helpful in the slightest. The month will follow with chaos and various adventures as they find their way through the ‘Chasm’, if you’d like to call it that. It’s nothing and everything at the same time! Will the campers eventually fade into nothingness/everythingness or will they find an escape to this madness?

so to sum it up, the cabin itself is a strange chasm and little is known about it. The campers find themselves there and really have no idea why, and the session will just be a bunch of random events that happen as they explore through the chasm, I was thinking some events could be going to different worlds, visiting other cabins, little competitions here and there or riddles. The end goal here is that the campers want to return back home, but they have no idea how, and so they wander around aimlessly but have fun at the same time if you understand that? We can just develop this a bit further since my idea is very broad!

Adding Schedule:
Would you like separate word counts or one studio for word counts? I'm fine with both! Honestly, it depends on how many people, but I find the one adding studio is easier, unless you want to do projects?

Cabin Relationships:
honestly no pref! any cabins you'd want to be siblings with or allies or neutrals or enemies?

Cabin Colors:
I was thinking more abstract and rare colors that have a kind of off to it, like off-white? (ideas could be an off-green, off blue, yellow, etc.

Atmosphere:
This is what I had in my app:
A cabin where campers can escape from reality, have fun, and get immersed in the strange storyline! There will be an emphasis on competition, but the main point is to enjoy themselves. (184 characters)
If you want to make any suggestions for it, please do!

Studio stuff:
If any of us need to work on something that includes canva, please use this link and put your work here (I can resize it if needed as I have premium), so we can all view it! : Canva
If you'd like to volunteer to do anything, feel free to! I think I'll be doing matching signatures and cabin desc if that's fine with ya'll! You should've received a request to curate the cabin <3

I can't wait to start!

Hi Em! :D Looks like you've got a lot planned out, and I can't wait to get started! <3 Unfortunately I've run out of time for today, but I've briefly skimmed over everything you wrote, and I'll better introduce myself and reply with my thoughts some time tomorrow <3

You know what actually I'll briefly reply with my thoughts to some things so that's out of the way and you can start planning today if Wild wants to!

Word counts: I think a single studio/project is probably best!

Colors: A chasm usually makes me think of dark colors  but we could go with subverting expectations and make it light if you want!

YOU HAVE CANVA PREMIUM THANK THE GODS :star_struck: That will definitely come in handy XD

Volunteering to do things: I think I'll probably have the most limited time of the team, so I'll let Wild get their preferences in first, and I can pick up on whatever's left <3

As for everything else, I'll think more about it tomorrow, and in the meantime everything you've already put sounds good to me! :D

To wrap up my (brief sorry KSKSKS) contribution for today, I'm again super excited to work with you guys! Bi-Fi FTW! ✨✨

ooh I like the idea of those colors! maybe a few dark colors and then strange bright ones to make it feel both recognizable but strange at the same time?

yep I think a studio would work the best for word adding, maybe we could just do an adding schedule and switch hosts?

Hii so I've got a bit of time to more completely respond to everything now <3

THEME: Your ideas sound really cool, especially the part about the leaders being abstract art  We could try to incorporate abstractness in the cabin's design as a whole, which could be a really cool way to do matching pfps!

ADDING WORDS: To make word counts easier, would you be interested in me making a spreadsheet to keep things organised? That way all three of us could add words, and just one of us has to update the word count studio description.

RELATIONSHIPS: I don't really have a preference of who we ally with this session, so if you or Wild has any ideas, that would be great!

ATMOSPHERE: Sounds good to me!

STUDIO STUFF: I attempted to make a draft of a possible design scheme for studio thumbnails, but it didn't really turn out well and I trashed it XD I do think that it might be interesting to do something with inverted colors and random things floating around, like books and guitars and fruit and anything else you guys can think of ^^

SYMBOLS: Here are some that I found that were interesting: ✴ ♦ ◍ ✲ ❂ ✾ ✺ ✦

STORYLINE AND ACTIVITIES: I think it would be fun to come up with puzzles and games for the campers to solve, though we should probably keep plans flexible in case the cabin turns out to be more or less active than we expected ^^ I also love the idea of random events happening as the campers explore the chasm and possibly other cabins. Maybe the scene could change every week, like between a forest, the bottom of the ocean, an abandoned city, and another planet, or similarly random locations.

As for visiting other cabins, maybe we could talk to the other leader teams about doing some sort of “camper exchange program” every so often. It would be pretty cool if campers could explore the different cabins and help out with their activities and challenges or something like that.

Let me know what you think!

I had something similar in mind too, I think it would be really cool to spice it up and make it a bit more different! Maybe like abstract shapes making up each person of varying color and sizes?

that sounds good! last session recca shared with me a spreadsheet that moonlit made, maybe we could use that? or if you have your own version we could also use that?

I really like this symbol ◍ because it kind of represents a chasm or a hole!

I like the idea of different places, but maybe to stay in the theme of abstractness, each place is a bit inverted and strange, maybe we could incorporate the idea of like inverted colors and strange people? there should also be some uniformity to it, if you understand me, like there's a similar theme in all the different places, maybe they're all in the chasm, just differents worlds in it and as the campers adventure through the chasm itself with the leaders, they get to go to these different places?

I'll put up in the forum that we're just looking for some relationships!

Sounds good to me! Would we also follow this design for camper pfps?

Also, I don't think we've discussed matching profile aesthetic sets ^^ I'd be happy to make them if you're interested! (I know how to make them animated ;D)

Recca and Moonlit's spreadsheet would be fine, and I could customise it to fit our needs ^^

Oooh okay! ⬤ also exists, which is a bit cleaner, but if you prefer the lines that's fine too!

Hellooo!!

I'm so excited to begin working on this
I'm currently at school, so I'll read everything more in-depth later, but here are my preliminary thoughts:

Theme
Okay, so I'm loving the surrealist/abstract aesthetic!! Am I correct in calling it a type of liminal space, specifically a chasm in between worlds, outside of the laws of any universe? It seems to be a place that isn't really a place at all, where everything sort of blends together and causality doesn't apply.
As someone who tends to think visually, I'm trying to get an image of it in my head, and I'm getting sort of a blurred, hazy effect, possibly with the sort of geometric shapes and patterns often used in abstract art. Perspective and depth are all skewed, and the distribution of focal points is random (or pseudo-random). Is that sort of what you're going for? I want to be sure I'm on the same page with the overall gist of it before moving on.

Adding Words
I agree that one studio for word adding is optimal, as it's both easier to keep track of and less confusing for new campers, at least in my experience. And in response to Wari: Yes, a spreadsheet would be VERY helpful, thank you! I always use a spreadsheet to add my personal words, so I'm honestly not sure I could handle word adding any other way :pp I have a Google account that doesn't have any personal stuff associated with it; I guess that's how we'd share the spreadsheet?

Cabin Relationships
I also don't have strong preferences on who we're friends or enemies with. It's only relevant during Cabin Wars, and even then, the stated relationships don't always end up reflecting cabins' interactions with each other in practice. As a general rule, I'd say be neutral to everyone unless they extend the offer to be allies or enemies first, and then just roll with it.

Cabin Symbolism
The concept of subverting expectations by picking lighter colors for the cabin theme is something I'm absolutely down with, but honestly, I don't have super strong opinions on this– Like I said earlier, I was getting blurred, hazy vibes, so off-colors do go with that idea! And I support ◍ for our symbol since the bands of black over the blank circle kinda represent the “everything and nothing at once” concept.

Alright, I gotta go, but I'll get to the rest later!! Heheh this is gonna be so fun :00

I agree with your idea of the theme, it's a bit of liminal space, in between reality. Honestly you really hit the target with what you idea of the image is, that's exactly what I think of it too, but you put it in words a lot better than I could!

I sent the spreadsheet link so both of you could check it out on whichever google account that works with you?

I think honestly that being neutrals with everyone (unless people ask) would be pretty cool because it's like we have no preference to anyone similar to how we're in between worlds, we're not siding with specific cabins.

Ohh hey this makes me think of something: like Em said about us being between worlds, what if we let our campers “slip” into other cabins? If the other leaders are cool with it, maybe we could do like camper exchanges where some of our campers go and participate in their cabin activities. They'd still add their words in our word count studio, but it could be a fun way to participate in events happening across SWC ^^ What do you think?

I think we could do that! maybe I could ask in the leader forum for 4-5 cabins that would be willing to do that, and they would slip through each cabin for each weekish?

what do you guys think of the color palette I made?

Hmm, or if we have enough interested campers, we could divide them into groups and send some to several cabins each week

Sending like 20 campers to a single cabin each week might cause a bit of a flood XD

If we do like three cabins every weekish, then we could potentially send campers to all the other cabins this session! If you think it's a good idea, then I'd suggest just asking everyone if they're interested, since the more cabins the better :D If we don't get all 12 other cabins, then we could repeat some cabins later in the session to let campers experience different stages of their storyline.

Em wrote:

uhhhh i'm having some trouble finding the spreadsheet and color palette :') where did you send them?

Also, it looks like we've settled that our cabin symbol is going to be ◍! I'm good with submitting it to the hosties!

On another note, I forgot the deadline for getting our cabin atmosphere in but I believe it's soon SKSKKS

Here are all of our atmospheres from our apps:

Em wrote:

A cabin where campers can escape from reality, have fun, and get immersed in the strange storyline! There will be an emphasis on competition, but the main point is to enjoy themselves.

Wild wrote:

Competitive and interactive, we’ll focus on goal-setting, with an aim to help each camper make progress towards their individual ambitions—and have a great time in the process!

Wari wrote:

A welcoming space, with a focus on building connections and reaching goals. This cabin has a spark of competitiveness for those who thrive in it, as well as fun and support for everyone.

It seems like things we agreed on were:
  • having fun
  • competition
  • immersive storyline
  • goal-setting

We could make our combined atmosphere something like:
Escape reality as you venture between bizarre worlds. As you enter the Bi-Fi chasm, be prepared to band together for friendly competition, reaching your goals, and having a crazy amount of fun. ;D (196 characters)
What do you think?

I love the atmosphere, if Wild agrees about it, we can submit it! also I like your idea for sending the campers to other cabins, but we should also start developing our own storyline! maybe to enter each cabin they have to do a puzzle of some sorts or something like that? and once they help out the cabin then the leaders could give them a clue to leave the bi-fi chasm, or if they don't want to leave it in the end, they can just have fun?

Hi, so I was fiddling around on the Canva with some ideas I had for the Bi-Fi thumbnail ^^ I'm not entirely happy with it but I'm not completely sure where to go from here, so if you guys have any improvements or suggestions to make, feel free to edit them! <3 I think once we have a thumbnail mostly settled, we might be able to get the cabin colours from that :eyes:

Ooh, that sounds good! I don't really have any concrete ideas for the storyline, but I'll list some things I loved about previous cabins I was in:
  • writing prompts where you develop what it would be like to live in the cabin's storyline (like journal entries from the perspective of someone trapped in the chasm, or descriptions of what the chasm is like)
  • puzzles (like encoded messages and clues!)
  • collaborative writing challenges
  • cabin-wide storyline RP
  • weekly word/currency thresholds to move to the next stage of the storyline
  • opportunities for campers (and (co)leaders!) to share advice about writing, including help with motivation and ideas for personal projects and weeklies and dailies

What did you guys like about past cabins? This could help us brainstorm what to do for Bi-Fi <3

I love these ideas and they already incorporate some of my favorite ideas so I think that I love the idea of currency a lot and it could play a key role in the storyline especially if it's we go through different places in the chasm, it's something that will stay consistent which is really nice! maybe it could just be an adventure through the chasm and we can plan out random events that happen in the chasm that seem out of place and a bit random and the campers have to figure out how to solve the problems and continue to venture? Like a random person asks for their help or suddenly they're in a maze so that we get various different activities so it's similar to the chaos of a chasm but we can try to have some uniformity throughout, or a goal we're trying to reach, like trying to escape this chasm after being confused as to why they got here in the first place

(asdfghjhgfds; apologies for the long delay! I had to go through a whole odyssey of obstacles this weekend– well, okay, maybe I didn't actually have to blind any Cyclopes, but you get the point heheh)

Cabin Atmosphere
Yeah, I think that “Escape reality as you venture between bizarre worlds. As you enter the Bi-Fi chasm, be prepared to band together for friendly competition, reaching your goals, and having a crazy amount of fun. ;D” is a good mix of all our values! …Not that it really matters now, since I think the due date was the 26th, but I agree with using that as our atmosphere.

Other Cabin Involvement & Storyline Activities
I like the idea of having activities that involve venturing to other cabins, though I will say, as someone who has been in cabins that have done that as part of their storylines, it does require campers to be really active in their storylines in order to be successfully pulled off. Which isn't to say it won't work, but I wouldn't place TOO much weight on it. If we can tie it into cabin-wide storyline events that we can notify campers on their profiles about, that might be the best approach. As for puzzles, I'd be down for coding a few if that's what we end up going for! I love puzzles ^^
What exactly is the backstory, anyway? If there is one; I know some cabins are just “you just spawned here; here's the situation!” and that's okay too, lol.

I think we're just playing it off like woah you went to bed one night and suddenly you wake up in you're in this strange world and you want to go back! Yeawh I agree with the fact that if we were to do that then it should be more of a side part than something that brings the storyline along, so maybe we should make sure that we have our own storyline, maybe like what I said where the campers venture through the chasm and meet strange beings along the way in strange, out of place places, maybe like an office room floating in the middle of nowhere the the campers have to help a distorted figure finish their work for the day or something like that!
