16 x 9 aspect ratio please!
It would simply be an option, and nothing of the sort would happen, as they would stay in 4:3. (We don’t want the dreaded 2.0 break to happen.) If scratch were to convert all projects to 16:9, everything would break and look bad, as all projects were built with 4:3 in mind.
The 4:3 projects would still make up the vast majority for a long while; I don’t think that everyone will forget about them that soon. It’s just a toggle. Also, I really doubt that the ST would remove all of those projects just because of a decreased preference of some Scratchers. Even if scratch team were to make it a toggleable option, people would still soon begin to migrate entirely to 16:9, and overall begin to prefer it. Leaving the poor 4:3 projects into dust as the child creators either don't want to, or don't know how to convert them into a 16:9 project. This would inevitably make everyone switch to 16:9 and 4:3 being removed in a later update due to inactivity.
Sure, but I don’t think that 16:9 isn’t. I doubt that kids would take one look at the aspect ratio and think, “Yeah, I’m out.” Why would they switch to other websites just because of the screen size being different? They can just ask how to change their screen. And also, why would the teachers have a different screen size? The website wouldn’t become deserted just because of an aspect ratio. Adding on, 4:3 is clean, simple and neat. The point of teaching programming to children on scratch is to have it be clean, simple, neat and easy to understand. A toggle would be confusing for younger kids, as they wouldn't know why their teachers screen is in 16:9 but theirs are in 4:3. So they'd all get confused and switch to the FAR inferior, Scratch JR, or even worse, the paid Tynker. Deserting the entire scratch website for probably indefinitely. (thanks to TheSmartGuy1234 for that)
I apologize if this sounds rude, and that is not my goal.

Support, but only if it's a toggle, and not forced

(#201)+1. And besides, 4:3 might even stay popular due to people remixing 4:3 projects*.It would simply be an option, and nothing of the sort would happen, as they would stay in 4:3. * Assuming remixes have the same aspect ratios as originals, that is.

A 1:1 aspect ratio is actually just a perfect square. Remember that screen ratios are always calculated as screen width/screen height, and that fraction is simplified. So a 1:1 aspect ratio could mean a screen 1 pixel by 1 pixel, or it could mean a screen 4000 pixels by 4000 pixels.(#206)So basically remove the stage? Add this to the list of rejected suggestions

so… the space that is unfilled currently would be accounted for, saving time when scrolling. this would be about 30% faster. also, i am not talking about he project stage size, that can stay at 480x360. there would be more space for instructions as well, so people would worry less about if their viewers will have to scroll for the end of the instructions, even if it's just a little bit. you could display ~40% more projects, studios and users per row, depending on what page you are on.
done

16 x 9 aspect ratio please!
Once again, this form has been going on since 2013.
Here are, once again, my opinions on this;
A few years ago, I made a post here, explaining how this would be a horrible idea. And I stand with what my original post had written, it would be chaos!
If scratch were to convert all projects to 16:9, everything would break and look bad, as all projects were built with 4:3 in mind.
Finally, have you ever heard of project storage limit? Projects can store only 50mb of code and 10mb of assets (sprites, costumes, music, etc), so unless they higher this limit (very unlikely) 16:9 would be incredibly awful for the 10mb asset storage limit, as you would need more space to draw your sprites, and thus, more storage usage.
People definitely have mixed feelings about this topic, and I respect your personal opinions on this matter, but my opinion is sealed indefinitely, as I am (most likely) leaving this discussion forever. Thank you for reading.when green flag clicked
say [Thank you for reading!] for (2) secs
Because of these bunch of messages I'm some sort of celebrity to this forum.
I still, to this day, stand my opinion, however.

So instead of offering a rebuttal towards the reubuttals made towards your original post… you just say “yeah idc my opinions haven't changed”. So what's the point of that post? Because of these bunch of messages I'm some sort of celebrity to this forum.
I still, to this day, stand my opinion, however.

16 x 9 aspect ratio please!
While this was true when this topic was made, a majority of devices running Scratch now tend to be school Chromebooks and iPads- and iPads generally have a screen with an aspect ratio of around 4:3. 16:9 actually wastes more space on a near-4:3 screen. That said, most Chromebooks are 16:9. The vast majority of devices that would play scratch games (namely PCs) have a 16:9 aspect ratio
I agree that this would be helpful, but only if a few things are also implemented: Please give us the option to use 16:9 (640 x 360 resolution if scaled from current 480 x 360) in our projects.
1. The person using the project has the option to change it back to 4:3
2. The layout of pages are changed somewhat when in 16:9 mode to accommodate a 16:9 stage, without reducing the size of the stage- possibly putting the Instructions and Notes & Credits under the stage, to give it enough room on screens that are 16:9 but still on the smaller side.
3. It is scaled down in the editor, so that people with smaller screens aren't even more pressed for space in the editor than they already are.
4. This is optional- older projects or people who just prefer 4:3 have the option to keep it as 4:3
5. 4:3 stays as the default, because the editor and project page were designed around them, and 6 years into 3.0 it could be somewhat confusing if suddenly the project pages had different layouts, especially for teachers teaching young students, who may not immediately understand why it has changed, how to use it in 16:9, and how to change it back.
