Why not do AFD on the forums this year?
Seriously guys? There definitely could've been ways to circumvent the issues of AFD on the forums by doing other tricks that the ST's already done, like making a seperate forum for all AFD-related stuff. And yet they decided to cut it short. And no, this isn't a moderation issue specifically. I just really wanna know why they did this. And even then, there are some issues about not doing AFD this year, as an example, it's always been a tradition about having the AFD post made on the forums, so unless they do something cool this year, that's only gonna encourage more people to post AFD-related posts on the forums when they can't. I could go on and on, but this is honestly kind of lame.

here might be a reason why they had to do that.

here might be a reason why they had to do that.Okay, that is pretty understandable. I guess they did have to figure out a middle ground somehow between this and closing the forums down on AFD.

Lag is likely part of it, but that's not to say that the moderation part of it is insignificant.

Guys, April Fools Day is 2 months away. Stop worrying about it so much. Who needs to post a joke on forums once a year?!

You could technically say it is next month… I'm not wrong though. Guys, April Fools Day is 2 months away. Stop worrying about it so much. Who needs to post a joke on forums once a year?!(Not for me though!)

We could just make projects or a studio or sth.
Though, I kinda wish we could see the old posts (well, I mean from last year's AFD, which was in a separate forum) without using the wayback machine.

April Fool's on here is also not a requirement. It's honestly surprising that it could live for so long, in spite of all the moderation issues it caused.

having the AFD post made on the forums, …… it's always been a tradition about
It may be understandable that you see it as a tradition since you joined fairly recently, but in actuality, AFD never was an established forum tradition after 2.0.
During the 1.x days when the site used different forum software, it was strictly up to the forum moderators to decorate the forum to match with the main site AFD theme (e.g. Neigh Pony), and then after the forum software changed for 2.0 it was strictly a “main website” affair only. AFD as a forum spammage phenomenon only sprang up in the past few years, particularly spurred on by COVID when more people were online and feeling really bored due to seclusion.
Someone already posted a link to where I had explained earlier how the AFD forum spammage phenomenon fast-tracked forum degradation (I actually wanted to quash the year earlier, but got overruled) but needless to say, it's definitely not gonna be a thing anymore, even if we do switch forum software, since forum spammage on that level kills forums over time.
Now if you really want to indulge in true AFD tradition, you'd just have to wait until the official AFD studio comes out and submit a project based on whatever theme the ST has chosen for that year. This is a programming website after all.

Does anyone actually come here to code? Most people I see just talk to their friends, so why not let them do their thing?
So just do the April Fool's forum. It's not that hard and if the server goes down, make a separate page for it.

Why not do AFD on the forums this year?
Yes. This is the main point of the site, and where the main efforts on Scratch would ideally go. Does anyone actually come here to code?
It's not hard to create the forum, but it is hard to moderate it. Making a separate page for it would be difficult if the server the page is hosted on went down. Making a completely independent page would be a lot of effort just for one day. So just do the April Fool's forum. It's not that hard and if the server goes down, make a separate page for it.

… The server will go down no matter where the page is on the Scratch website, if it is spammed/abused enough. So just do the April Fool's forum. It's not that hard and if the server goes down, make a separate page for it.

Yes, and theoretically, everyone should be primarily coding if they signed up for the website. Additionally, the high commenting volume on the main site is also not okay - it’s one of the reasons why studio comments chains got snipped and why that limit will be added the profile eventually. Massive comment volume = lag, regardless of where it occurs. It just usually happens to be less on the main site, but there have been a few cases where we do shut down pages known to be a lag sink, like griffpatch’s profile from time to time. Someone answered why a forum or page is not doable, but to put it simply, shuffling comments around doesn’t reduce lag.Just a simple question:having the AFD post made on the forums, …… it's always been a tradition about

And this doesn’t consider things like moderation or server financial costs. No one’s throwing donation money at the Scratch Foundation to built a chat website, that’s not what our overall goal is.
In any case, the main answer to your question has been given, and the pushback response seems like an attempt for decision reversal now. We’re not gonna do that because of the consequences that would negatively affect the website in the long run. Closing thread.
