Show the Last Five Remixes, Not the First Five
And I'm going to include Za-Chary's post even though the quote is larger than the original post…
…how about a feature where the project creator can choose which remixes to display there? Either the first 5, the last 5, or 5 of their choice? That could be pretty fun, and would be a way for the project creator to showcase their 5 favorite remixes if they'd like. This avoids the problem listed above since now the project creator would have full control over which projects get displayed. (Of course, there is the possibility that they'd choose the inappropriate projects, but again, maybe it's not a big deal…)Here's a similar suggestion but for studios.

Well not always, because some will still be small changes, but now, instead of five remixes getting all the attention, every one is given a little bit of time in the spotlight. That's a great idea! Now remixes that people worked hard on will show!

For this to happen currently, the inappropriate remixer needs to be one of the first 5 remixes. If they are, and the project is removed, then if they try to make an inappropriate remix again, it's likely that their remix won't appear on the original project's page since 5 people could have remixed the project since then.
However, under the proposed suggestion, the inappropriate remixer can make an inappropriate remix and have it show up immediately — they could be the 100th remixer and it would still appear. Then, if their remix gets removed, they can just remix it again and have an inappropriate project immediately show up again.
It's not really a big issue since, again, the solution is just to report the project, but I figured I'd mention it in case it's important. I'd rather see a bunch of “FIRST REMIX!!1!!” projects on someone's page than a bunch of inappropriate projects.
==========
All that aside, how about a feature where the project creator can choose which remixes to display there? Either the first 5, the last 5, or 5 of their choice? Same problem with comments and they could make extremely inappropriate ASCII art (for the comment). However, under the proposed suggestion, the inappropriate remixer can make an inappropriate remix and have it show up immediately — they could be the 100th remixer and it would still appear. Then, if their remix gets removed, they can just remix it again and have an inappropriate project immediately show up again.

Good counterpoint, especially given that comments are more prominent and easier to make than remixes. Same problem with comments and they could make extremely inappropriate ASCII art (for the comment).

So I think what you're saying is that this has the same problem that got a “recent projects” tab rejected. True, I didn't think of that. One potential problem: if someone makes an inappropriate remix, now that remix is displayed right on the original project's page. Yes, the solution is just to report the project, but until it gets removed, the inappropriate remix can be seen by anyone without clicking on it.
For this to happen currently, the inappropriate remixer needs to be one of the first 5 remixes. If they are, and the project is removed, then if they try to make an inappropriate remix again, it's likely that their remix won't appear on the original project's page since 5 people could have remixed the project since then.

And I like the idea of the project creator being able to choose between these options. Do you mind if I include this in my original post?

Yes, but the first few remixes usually aren't very finished either, although I see your point that they could be after a while. most recent would be likely to show not-quite-finished remixes, but changing the system defiantly would have benefits.

Okay here's another idea: The project viewer can choose to see the first, last, or the creator's top five, but the creator can choose their favourite five, and choose which setting to show by default. …how about a feature where the project creator can choose which remixes to display there? Either the first 5, the last 5, or 5 of their choice? That could be pretty fun, and would be a way for the project creator to showcase their 5 favorite remixes if they'd like. 7.11 “Recently Shared Projects” row on the front pageSince this would apply to all projects, including those by big names such as griffpatch, I believe all of the reasons in the rejected suggestion apply here as well. I agree with the reasons you mentioned in your post, however I dislike the idea itself. The best outcome would be sorting by views or loves. A project with more views/loves is seen by more users, meaning if it's inappropriate more people are likely to report it. It also makes the remixes a lot more appealing to check out since they are typically more well made.This proposed row on the front page would display projects that were most recently shared by Scratchers, in an attempt to help unnoticed Scratchers get more views. Such a feature existed in Scratch 1.4 and Scratch 2.0. It was removed for several reasons: the community did not find these projects interesting, the row would sometimes show inappropriate projects, and these new projects would often get disrespectful comments from other users.

Edit: Now that I think about it, sorting by views or loves would be abused by generic Explore page Scratchers who could upload a generic game into a remix of a griffpatch project, get popular on the Explore page to put it at the top of the remixes and from there it would explode in popularity. All you would see in the remixes is generic projects, which feels like free advertising. Now I think it's best if we just remove the 5 projects and just show a link to the remixes page, but I'm unsure on how to sort THAT page.

I disagree. The front page is much more public than the remixes shown on any particular user's project page. Note that a user's profile also shows their 5 most recently shared projects (and their 5 most recently favorited projects), and yet we seem to have no problem with that feature. Since this would apply to all projects, including those by big names such as griffpatch, I believe all of the reasons in the rejected suggestion apply here as well.

irrelevant remixes are against the rules already, and if they are making legitimate remixes of griffpatch's (or some other big scratcher's) projects, that would be an increase in explore page quality.7.11 “Recently Shared Projects” row on the front page~snip~This proposed row on the front page would display projects that were most recently shared by Scratchers, in an attempt to help unnoticed Scratchers get more views.
