So after a user makes their first post in each forum, the pop-up would disappear? Here are my ideas for the messages, feel free to edit these:
  • Questions about Scratch: This forum is for Scratch questions. Make sure to not to talk about Scratchers or non-Scratch related things. Additionally, please do not name and shame.
  • Suggestions: Before posting, please look for duplicate posts (link to wiki article on dupes). You can learn about how to find duplicates here (link to the sticky about how to find duplicate posts.) Additionally, feel free to read The Official List of Rejected Suggestions (link.) If you want to discuss someone who is banned, please ask that the user uses Contact Us to appeal their ban instead.
yes, and contact us. good job!
So what about all of the other Forums? I think the toughest one to do is the Advanced topics. Scratch Wiki calls in the “Misc. Forum” in one of the references

Bugs and glitches: “This forum is for reporting bugs and glitches you run into on scratch. When using this forum, make sure that your glitch hasn’t been reported before. This can be done with ocular. Finally, make sure to describe the issue and say your browser and operating system by clicking the ‘world’ button at the top of the text box.”

I don’t go into advanced topics often, but I’ll try to write what I can
Advanced topics: “this is the advanced topics forum. Here we discuss things like coding in languages for advanced than scratch; like python, or JavaScript.”

Ignoring my usual opinions that such pop-ups are not needed (for forum experience is the best teacher), I'll provide some feedback on an existing mockup.

“This forum is for Scratch questions.” – This is good.

“Make sure to not to talk about Scratchers or non-Scratch related things.” – This is good.

“Additionally, please do not name and shame.” – I'd remove this for two reasons:
  • Naming and shaming is a way to talk about other Scratchers, and the previous sentence already said not to do that.

  • The wording may be confusing to someone who has never been to the forums. Don't name and shame … who? Maybe “gossip” would be a better word, if needed (although this still repeats what was said in the previous sentence) — I feel that “name and shame” has a more negative connotation than “gossip.”
It would probably be better to replace that sentence with something about how you cannot ask questions related to alerts. I think the OP covers this, but it's worth emphasizing, since technically alerts are “about Scratch.” I'd prefer this mockup:

Questions about Scratch: This forum is for general questions about the Scratch editor or website. Please do not ask questions about specific Scratchers, or about anything unrelated to Scratch. If you have a question about a moderator action, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the website instead of posting about it here. Thanks!

Now that I look at this, maybe instead of a first-time pop-up, this should actually be text that appears at the top of the Questions about Scratch forum. That way everybody has access to it. Otherwise people might forget what this pop-up originally said.

“Suggestions: Before posting, please look for duplicate posts (link to wiki article on dupes). You can learn about how to find duplicates here (link to the sticky about how to find duplicate posts.)” – I feel like this is too much work just to post in the Suggestions forum. It also seems out-of-place for this pop-up. In particular, first-time users won't know (1) why they need to do this, (2) what they should do if they find a duplicate, or (3) what they should do if they don't find a duplicate. But this can't really be explained in a pop-up because that would be too many words. The full explanation could really be understood by @Paddle2See's post, which — in order to easily see it — requires that the user post a duplicate anyway. (We <3 learning through forum experience!)

“Additionally, feel free to read The Official List of Rejected Suggestions (link.)” – I'm biased, but I think this is a good thing to include. Reading what suggestions are rejected is much easier to understand than what a duplicate is. It's also good to prevent someone from wasting their time, potentially (although reading the entire list top to bottom is never really recommended).

“If you want to discuss someone who is banned, please ask that the user uses Contact Us to appeal their ban instead.” – This one seems weird to me because asking about bans isn't really something that I feel one would attribute to a forum called “Suggestions.” Unlike Questions about Scratch, where asking about a ban is technically a “question about Scratch,” I don't think it's common to assume that such a question even belongs in Suggestions.

And finally, unlike Questions about Scratch, this pop-up didn't describe what the forum is to be used for! So I'd prefer the following mockup:

Suggestions: This is a forum for suggestions on how to improve the Scratch website and editor. Feel free to read the list of rejected suggestions [link]. Before posting, try searching to see if somebody else made your suggestion; if they did, feel free to contribute to their discussion.

(Although again, we <3 learning through forum experience: both the rejected list and duplicates will be learned through natural posting/usage of the Suggestions forum.)

i am on phone and my cell data is almost out so I can't snip ur quote well @Za-Chary
but all the things that are suggested/on the mockup are the rules (for not getting closed I.E rejected suggestions) so I see this as a way to lower the need for moderators than an obstruction to learning forum etiquette and community rules (allowed by st but community disliked I.E illegal bumps)
i know this can possibly block some community rules, but it is a 1 time pop-up and there are other more experienced forumers that can help with any non experienced

I agree. This would be handy for reducing incorrect threads and dupes, at least a little bit.

Support, this would most likely decrease the amount of forum misuse, I would suggest one thing though, if you plan on having an “OK” button, it should have a timer so the person would be sure to read it
