The OP is stating they believe the ST should buy scratch.new
That would be a new domain, and separate site according to the public WHOIS. As such, new domain. new.scratch.mit.edu wouldn’t work, as its also not scratch.new. They wouldn’t have to buy a new domain, but it still isn’t scratch.new, which is what the OP is suggesting. Scratch.new they would HAVE to buy for this suggestion.

no. No support that process looks way to confusing and even then doesn't work, especially since it's not as fast as the create button.

Who would use this? It seems like a waste of money as barely anyone is gonna use it.

It wouldn’t be a new url it would still be hosted on scratch
I suppose that would be better than scratch.new

I like the idea of using scratch.pizza as there's no use for the domain at this point

Scratch.pizza is set to redirect to scratch, as the ST owns the domain.
They don’t own scratch.new

You seriously just removed all of the post except the “no support.” Thiago_le_meilleur made it pretty obvious why they didn't support.

Can't press the Create button if you're not on Scratch.
Then go to the scratch homepage?
Scratch can be very slow sometimes, so that isn't a good solution.

Just… bookmark. Actually, y'know what.
EDIT3: Forgot to mention (was reminded by PPPDUD) that this doesnt work on non-NT-like operating systems
Just make a .txt file, add this
start https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/editor/
change to “any file type” in the dropdown when saving, rename from “.txt” to “.bat”, save it, open it any time. Alternatively make the txt on your desktop, then change to .bat after making file name extensions visible, right click + edit and add that in.
This is just the lazier workaround that I do.
My thought:

No support
EDIT: forgot to include browser in start so the argument in the batch was invalid
EDIT2: no im just a bad coder nvm lol, i forgot to include https so it was treated as a file

You could just use the url bar if you've visited the site enough (if that makes sense), use bookmarks, or just click create. Scratch isn't really meant to be used on mobile, so I don't think that would be a point in this (and what I mean is that very small screens have the create button cut off, though THE URL BAR!!!), and I think it could still take a bit to go to scratch.new.

Are you trying to suggest that instead of getting a new domain, they could just use a shorthand url like this?

7salad3salad wrote:

So instead of a new domain, maybe they could repurpose an existing domain like scratch.pizza, or scratch.love? Or scratch.mit.edu/new/ ?
I doubt many people would believe typing scratch.pizza in the url would redirect to a new project XD (or even the Scratch website at all), they'd likely just use the create button or type “scratch.mit.edu/pro” in the url bar

Also, acquiring a whole new domain may not be financially sustainable for the team.

People stated that, though they did add an alternative /new thing that was suggested to the original post.

Or scratch.mit.edu/new/ ?
Why add /new when they already have /projects/editor? It's a bit longer, but still manageable to type. If scratch.pizza or scratch.love were repurposed, it wouldn't be very obvious that they are used to create new projects. I think that scratch.new would be a better solution (even though it was removed from the OP).

cookieclickerer33 wrote:

I don’t see a reason to buy an entire domain just as a redirect to editor
The Scratch Team owns ten different domains that do nothing except redirect to Scratch, and I'm sure that more people would be willing to type “scratch.new” to go to a new project than “scratch.computer” to go to Scratch.

No support, there's bookmarks too, and you can literally just go to any scratch page and click the create button. It takes like 2 seconds.
