Here's my idea; just change the phrasing on the share button so that it's declarative instead of imperative. Just change it to something more along the lines of “This project is not shared – so only you can see it. If it's finished, click share to let everyone see it!”. It would be very easy to change, and I think it might cut down on the amount of unfinished projects that are shared.
