Block VPNs on scratch

I think banning vpns on scratch would be good cause then for example: There would not be people who’s username is co-steel getting on the anti-inappropriate club description 8 times cause they have a vpn so they can’t get permanent banned

While blocking VPNs would stop IP-banned users from bypassing such bans, there are several downsides that I go into detail in this post; here's a relevant snippet from that post:

Although blocking all VPNs would prevent IP-banned users from circumventing their ban, there's one huge issue: VPNs are also used for privacy, since they prevent websites and ISPs from tracking users. Blocking VPNs leaves privacy-focused users with two choices: disable their VPN to use Scratch (which leaves them vulnerable to unwanted tracking), or use a Scratch alternative that allows VPNs. A lot of VPN users would probably choose the latter.

If I'm remembering correctly, this already exists - to a point.

There have been a few times when I've logged onto Scratch forgetting I had a VPN active, only to find I was IP banned. Slightly panic inducing, but turning off my VPN fixed the issue. I'm assuming the two are connected, but there's a chance they weren't.

Scratch as a left-wing organization should fight against geoblocking and China's oppressive policies. The law isn't always right.
You'd be denying access to Scratch to around 3.2 million people whose only fault is being born on the wrong side of the world. Consider this.

Guys, please can you STOP frying chicken and arguing so we don't need to put ice cubes by requesting to closing the topic?
Basilikos you have my respect for emphasizing that post btw
EDIT: Like really though this is gonna turn into a Flame War if it already doesn't appear like one, a temporal close (with ice cubes) would be probably a good idea just now.

Railing back on topic, I doubt it'd be a good idea now that I rethink — This is an invasion of privacy to an extent of people — Infact, I'd realized this here that I think is even related, some IPs from VPNs are already blocked because of misusage, sure, swap to a different — But until the provider decides to get a new one, many could be unusable so this is sort of implemented, but sort of not.
Also not very possible without researching a bunch and I believe Scratch could get backlash.
No support because i'd changed my mind.

The country you are born in is not always right. Blindly supporting every single act your country commits is criminal and hypocritical considering the western democracies do not adhere to monopartitism and as such every political party in the country has different views on things.

It's important to distinguish whenever a country does something unethical or not. Information is the key to understanding how the world works and, guess what, the Chinese are being denied the right to freely access it.

You shouldn't always have a blind patriotism for the nation you live in, especially if that nation doesn't respect your rights. If people just supported everything their government did no matter what bad it is, then that government would be free to do whatever they wanted without any consequences; this is exactly how authoritarian regimes are formed. Imagine if the U.S. government suddenly gave itself the power to control everything its citizens said or did; needless to say, there would be a new government very quickly. This is the same situation with China, but it's done so over a very long period of time, so people have gotten used to it (there was a protest in 1989, but it was crushed by the Chinese military quickly).

If your government doesn't allow you to access information freely on the Internet, you have the right to use a VPN.

I'll make it clear in the discussion.

I slightly agree with this, and I am kind of on the fence with this suggestion. Many wouldn't be able to use Scratch because their VPN was blocked by the Scratch Team.

There are valid reasons why a Scratcher might be using a VPN. At this time I don't see us taking such a drastic action as blocking all VPN use on Scratch. If a particular VPN is being used for abusive reasons, we can block it individually.
