It slows me down whenever I have to reach the [] keys, as they are isolated from the homerow. Plus, It's faster to type

Than it is to type

when I joined github and started making a readme document in markdown, at first I didn't realize it was markdown until I was seeing a really weirdly-formatted text. It took me a good hour to finally learn most of the syntax for markdown and actually finish the readme. my lesson learned, markdown isn't worth the trouble unless you want to have minimalistic formatting.

I mean, the forums are just fine as they are, at the push of a button we can add most types of typographical emphasis and whatnot even though it takes up a little more space (like is the difference even problematic???)

I don't support. I'm sorry though, markdown just isn't all that noob-friendly.

One concern is its readability in plaintext form…

For me, it took me a while to even know about GFM, but once I did, the only thing I had a problem with were tables on a dedicated GFM editor.

BBCode is fine on the forums, and we should keep using it.

I'd be fine with introducing Markdown support to other things though.

Comments definitely, I can't wait to use `code` on comments. And even bold and italic - but they should disable images and links.

Maybe links but it would be nice to have an images feature for comments.

The mod's can check as many comments as they currently do and emphasise the report button. Add an option for innapropriate images in the report comment popup.
The user/project creator/studio creator should be able to disable images at will.

Support for adding markdown to comments, it's super easy to learn and it would be helpful . We can't have headers though because Scratch comments do not have newlines

The github didn't have formatting buttons there, that's why.

There are a couple of features that markdown lacks (because it’s supposed to have readable plaintext).

However, it does provide a much faster way of adding formats.
` for inline code, ``` for multiple code lines, * for italic, ** for bold, *** for both bold and italic, > before a text to quote, - before a text to bullet it, ~~ for strikethrough, || for spoiler, etc.

It provides readable source code, but it doesn't have too many features. More can be added (Scratch flavored Markdown real?) but overall I give half support. The forums have to be reworked to add Markdown and old posts need to be reworked (unless we add a cool new [md] tag).

No support, I agree with @DaSpudLord that BBCode is perfectly adequate-

Markdown can be really useful, but Scratch (targeted at 8-16 year olds) isn’t the place for it.

And I don’t think the ST are likely to add it because of that.

Also, I made this post on my phone with no problems at all

I think markdown would be quite helpful, but they should have a tag for disabling it because sometimes you want something like
*Test
instead of
Test
. Maybe the syntax can be {}

There should be a BBCode mode, and a Markdown mode, with a toggle in the editor. BBCode is better for longer posts, but Markdown is easier once you understand it. Also, most people use ** for bold and _ for italics. so there's no confusion.

2.2 Text-based syntax in Scratch
Some users wish to code Scratch not with the blocks, but with typing code instead (similar to how more advanced programming languages work). Others are interested in an option to view, convert, or download Scratch code to other programming languages. However, the Scratch Team has discussed this possibility multiple times and has decided every time that it would not be beneficial for beginners or teachers.

This suggestion extends to coding, viewing, converting, or downloading Scratch in any text-based language, including BBCode, Javascript, some form of pseudocode, or some other programming language. If you wish to code using another language, then you can learn it on your own, but it would have to be done outside of Scratch. For those who are interested, it may be worth checking out Tosh. It is a text-based programming language that serves as a text editor for Scratch projects. Another option is MakeCode Arcade, a programming language that can convert between block-based and text-based programming within the editor.
