Here's the thing about remixing: if I hadn't been able to download the code from actruncale's Snake project, then I couldn't have known how to make a snake stamp itself. If I hadn't known how to do that, I never would have posted my Snake project. If I never posted my Snake project, I never would have gotten curated. And I actually learned something from replicating his script. So for me, remixing=learning.

I think “see project” should be read-only and there should be an option to disable remixes.

I find “see project” very annoying.

I totally disagree.
The majority of education New Scratchers get come from these two amazing tools.

I have an idea to potentially stop art/project theft, though it might or might not work. First you'll need to have a “project opened” detector:

I've never tried making something like this, but geez I think this is overkill for any computer!

EDIT: Alright, guys. I made what I described above. Hope this solves the theft problem! Anti-Theft Device
WHY!?!?
You're preventing people from seeing inside projects!!?!?!?
How will new scratchers learn scripts!?!?
By experimenting, Help with Scripts forum, other projects, etc.

This might actually be useful. I might use it on a game where seeing inside is cheating.
Wouldn't it be up to the player whether to cheat or not? What does it matter to you if they cheat?

Here are my suggestions:
• Importing items from your backpack creates an uneditable tag that says “credit to blah” with as link to Blah's profile.
• (suggested by someone else) somehow check to see how much a remix is different than the original and not let them share it if it's too close to the original.
• Not let stealers remix
I was thinking of something similar, except the owner of the art has a “copyright” on it, and whoever backpacks and and adds it into there project, in the project there would be Credit to @<user> for some artwork. at the the bottom of the credits.

I agree. I always add to what I remix. I know a user in RL, @albertgao123, and he used to have a whole bunch of projects because he remixed everything and changed nothing. Then he took my advice and now he only has 3 shared projects.

Remove the remix feature altogether. I think Scratch should convert to prioritizing originality over remixing. I've always been disgusted in that feature
How would we learn without remixing? Remixing is ok as long as you make changes.
Yeah, but a lot of people don't make changes which is just a way they can take credit for other people's work and not do any themselves. I think a feature needs to be added that can detect if they have made changes and disallow the remix if they have not.

I think you can report remixes with no differences…

You can! You're encouraged to do this! Nobody seems to understand this…

Back to the original topic, I have an idea that would help to avoid remixes filling up the search.
If a result had more than a couple of remixes, it would have a button which would show all remixes when clicked, like this:
Project on Scratch
scratch.mit.edu/projects/00000001/
╔═════╗ Jul 22, 2014 ... Project on Scratch by stickfiregames. ... description
║ ║ description description description description description descrip...
╚═════╝ Labeled Projects
v 5 remixes (Click to show)

Remix on Scratch
scratch.mit.edu/projects/00000002/

Scratch uses its own Google Custom Search, is this possible to implement?

I think everyone will agree with me when I say we really need a remix lock.

Project theft is bad. There should be an option to report a remix as project theft.

Another thing someone can do is download someone else's project and re-upload it as if it weren't a remix. There should be some data stored in the project as to what user originally owns it, so that if people re-upload a project like I just described, it will say it is a remix.

Also I support boosting originals to the top of search results.

And remix locking, yes I'd very much support that too.

Everyone here is misunderstanding the point of this topic. He wants the original to show above to the remixes. Somehow this became off topic.

You can just change something extremely small and unnoticable in a remix to work around that detection thing. for example, add a line of code that doesn't do anything, such as…

I always thought the Share bit in “Imagine - Program - Share” meant the Share button in the project editor.

THERE IS!!! YOU CAN DO THAT!!! YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!! All it takes is you clicking the “report” button and saying “this is project theft!”
