That's exactly what I mean.

I really think it should be changeable. Changing the entire color theme of scratch is not a small change

I like the purple (and absolutely… dislike. the new block colors) so support. Also you should add the classic #4d97ff blue as pre-set option

It was done to make the site more accessible for people with colorblindness. The reason this was stickied is because they thought there would be a lot of suggestions asking to change it back, so the Scratch Team was clearly aware of the controversy it would cause.

Hang on - this is opinion - and we don't need an argument, even though most people (my self inclued) ended up in one side of blue vs purple.

Remember: It's a setting - everyone can acually be happy in this sacnrio.

All we need is to start with purple, then if it's an unregistered user, store this settings with cookies and draw a big line below the donate bar saying “Would you like a blue navagation bar?” or something and if yes, it'd change to “Would you like a purple navagation bar?”

For registered user, just put this under account settings.

I fully 100% support this, because the purple looks pretty bad (in my opinion), I don't know, I guess it matches the default color for the color picker (But I never use that color unless it's something I don't want to put like any work into) I use blue much more than purple (because I can't think of a time I've used purple on purpose). I know I'm being very negative, but when I saw it loading purple I screamed (Not very loud because I don't want to wake my sis), but still. I guess I understand why they did this, because, I don't know, it's not a “Boy Color”, so uh, can this be added, because I want the blue back. (Wow I wrote a whole paragraph.)

See this new color is to increase the amount of people that can use scratch but by doing this people actually have to leave because they're eyes hurt from the color.

This entire purple update is a mess, and the lack of care for the users is pathetic.


The fact that we cannot switch colors and that this option hasn't been implemented is astounding. It's great that colorblind support has been added (most likely due to legal concerns) to support people with colorblindness. However, complete disregard for regular users is very disrespectful. Why should something like this be defaulted to everyone when the majority of people are not colorblind? The great majority of people oppose this, and rightfully so. On top of that, there are different types of colorblindness, and this update will not work in every colorblind person's favor. The argument that adding a color toggle option will cause bugs" is coming from people who have never coded a single thing outside of Scratch. 


I personally find it very difficult to browse through Scratch because of this color update. The color is discomforting and very distracting to some extent. The previous blue color was less vibrant and rather tame, making it very comfortable for the eyes. I am certain that other people feel the same way. It's a shame that, most likely, nothing will be done about this.

I have seen multiple people complaining that its hurting they're eyes

We could have something like the language settings, have something at the bottom of the screen that says “High Contrast Mode” and have it automatically set to blue (or off), and then if someone does need high contrast mode they could turn it on. Z and as it's at the bottom of the front page (like the language bar) it would be easily accessible - in my opinion
