Impose a moratorium on April Fools' Day suggestions

By “April Fools' Day suggestions,” I mean suggestions posted in the Suggestions forum asking the Scratch Team to implement some change in the Scratch website or editor on April Fools' Day. (I am NOT referring to joke suggestions posted on April 1st in the April Fools' Day forum.)

Basically I am suggesting “Close all April Fools' Day suggestions that are made from now on,” much like how guides in the forums are handled these days. I am not opposed to just closing all April Fools' Day suggestions even if they have already been made, but I won't have a problem if the ones that were already made get to stay.

I am proposing a moratorium for three reasons:
  • The Scratch Team typically has not implemented any Scratcher-suggested April Fools' Day suggestions, and these Scratcher-made suggestions often have unrealistic expectations compared to what the Scratch Team has time to implement for an April Fools' event.

  • Given the above, suggestions about April Fools' Day tend to take up space and prevent other suggestions from getting attention, specifically those suggestions that would apply to Scratch for the entire year as opposed to one day.

  • April Fools' Day suggestions often come across as joke topics themselves, under the guise of being a legitimate suggestion. To this extent, it is entirely possible that someone can make a joke suggestion and then claim that it is a real suggestion for April Fools'.

Thank you for your consideration.

Why would we want to do this as opposed to moving serious suggestions into the Suggestions forum?

Overall, this is useful, as its better for a user to program it themself and submit a PR to Scratch’s GitHub, teaching them programming and giving the devs better time to implement things, important, while giving us AFD additions.

I am talking about stopping suggestions for April Fools' Day made in the Suggestions forum; I am not referring to serious suggestions made in the April Fools' Day forum.

While this is a kinda good idea, the first reason should be removed as a lot of suggestions are not typically added by ST.

Also, no support because of the fact that the ST ideas for a “good April fools joke” are usually terrible and basically nothing ever happens. If you didn’t know it was April fools day, and there wasn’t a post about it on the front page, the scratch website would seem completely normal (unless in the forums). April fools suggestions are good because the ST is really bad when it comes to April fools pranks. They’be gotten worse and worse over the years.

Yeah, they used to be funny, but they took up space, (as you mentioned,) and people had differing opinions on what was “funny” and what wasn't. And one of the biggest reasons is that if the ST did implement they're suggestion, it'd only be for a day, and lots of people would already know about it.

I personally am not that big of a fan of April Fools suggestions, and lets be realistic, none of them are ever going to be added.

Which is why he's saying we should impose a moratorium, currently they're doing nothing but being mistaken for joke posts and taking up server space

And somehow they always get so much attention. Which is why I agree with this suggestion.

Impose a moratorium on April Fools' Day suggestions

Maybe “April Fools' Day suggestions” could be changed to something along the lines of “suggestions for April Fools' Day events”.

I feel like April Fools' Day suggestions were always responded to with “Use Contact Us instead”, and one time a Scratch Team member said that “the Suggestions forum is a good place for April Fools' Day suggestions” (Ocular is down for me, I can't find the post), and then ever since then, no one has discouraged them. Still, it's not like the Scratch Team is going to actually do any of them anyway, and adding a moratorium would make there would be less spam.

In general, it's beneficial for users to program and submit a Pull Request to Scratch's GitHub. This not only teaches them programming skills but also allows the developers more time to work on important tasks while still providing us with new features.
