What is an Operating System (OS)

An operating system is the gateway from the hardware to the user.
it helps the system operate using a kernel (Command Prompt, LXTerminal, etc) that connects the OS to he hardware.

What is a DE?
A Desktop Environment (DE) is the thing that you are using to view this forum right now.
it is also apart of the OS that makes the user able to interact with the OS.

What is a Window Manager?
a window manager is responsible for letting you see the apps that you open using a window. It manages the placement and appearance of the windows too.
