I think that the Cosmicat should be added back for April Fools' as the default sprite, maybe @ceebee or @ScratchCat can make a fake announcement saying that they are reverting back to the original Cosmicat in this form:

Based on what I've seen, though, the Scratch Team doesn't really do “pranks” anymore, just “easter eggs”. They went from having Pico and Neigh Pony taking over Scratch to just adding easter eggs to the search menu. They got a lot stricter about their joke forum post policy, too.

tldr: cosmicat is coolio and uhh um april fools is cool and stuff and the, uh, i-it would be cool if april fools day had more effort put into it by the st as the past few years were super lacklustre and bare bones

100% support. throughout the years, scratch has felt less “lighthearted”, with dozens of friends a few years ago shrinking down to basically none. i'm not here to cry about my sob story, though; and i feel like this year would be a perfect time to play more elaborate pranks on the community.

The pranks of the past few years have felt so… low-effort, like the ST wasn't trying their hardest. Instead of actual pranks, we get uhh hat blocks with little cat ears and uhh a picture of uhh peanut butter in the search results if you uhm type in a twenty-letter gibberish word at a randomly chosen microsecond between the minutes of 1:20pm and 1:21pm australian central western standard time. it doesn't FEEL like a fun day for scratch, which is what the website is basically known for, but instead just a “okay here's a word, search it up, whatever, goodbye”.

cosmicat would be a perfect addition for april fools day, and it would get the website back on track, attracting more scratchers sharing their passions because the website is now the “ha ha funny coding site”. in fact, i think april fools should go more all-out on scratch. why not change the logo's colour, or add some new lore like they did all those years ago? it's time for upgrades, and april fools this year can definitely be better than the past few years if the st puts dedication in.

you might be wondering why i'm so dedicated to the idea of april fools day, when it's a dumb tradition that won't even have a LASTING impact on scratch. it's because i feel the site probably could benefit from more of a social perspective. april fools is such a big tradition on scratch, and i feel kinda sad just seeing it being thrown away in favour of just easter eggs that don't even have that big of an impact on the community. my friends on scratch all those years ago all have either been banned or have moved on, but honestly, i really liked those moments (i already know i don't get much social interaction, shut up), and i want more recent users to have the same experience. i feel like putting more effort into events like celebrations could bring scratch together more as a whole, and i believe focusing on the community more (with events such as adding cosmicat into april fools day) is the first step

Of the ~15 years that the Scratch website has existed, I only remember 4 April Fools' events that were more than just “easter eggs” — Neigh Pony, Pico takeover, Meow language, Edible Scratch. Do we have different definitions of “easter eggs,” or is there something I'm missing? Because it seems to me like “easter eggs” are the norm — and thus the tradition — rather than something more significant.

It's debatable as to whether the 4 aforementioned events really had a “big impact” on the Scratch community.

A lot of Scratchers liked those cat ears, so many that the Scratch Team got lots of suggestions to keep them. I'd argue that the cat blocks had more of an impact than, say, the Pico takeover.

I fail to see how Cosmicat is any more significant than the cat blocks. At least the cat blocks, mystery mode, etc. were graphical changes to the editor. Cosmicat is just adding a sprite — which the Scratch Team could reasonably do at any time of year. What makes Cosmicat more special than April Fools' events in recent years?

It's for April Fools', so it would actually be saying that the default sprite would be replaced with the Cosmicat for April Fools', along with a fake Announcement (by @ceebee or @ScratchCat) about how they “chose to revert back to Cosmicat”.
