Adding countries flags to the library
I don't think I've posted here, but I will anyways:
No support, it's unclear (to my knowledge) which countries are actual countries,
That would have to be figured out, but for sure the UN members and observers, maybe just that? It covers most countries, and controversial ones can be added in like you said.
and if you really need the flag for a country, import one from your hard drive.
At this point just remove all the sprites because you can “just use google images” or “download them from you hard drive” the point it to make it easier.

Adding countries flags to the library
Honestly these are all of my points why I lost hope in countries after the many responses from the pride hearts thing. This was only made to make the following topic separate, but should I even make this do this when I know the responses I'm going to get-
But pls don't suggest why we can't just download it just because. Some people can't even download. There's a reason why scratch has the library in the first place. And because of that reason, I'm going to add that to the op.

Most Russians live in European Russia, as the Siberian area is a wasteland of snow. For Indonesia, call it part of Asia. For Panama, call it a part of Central America. For ordering into continents, what about transcontinental countries like Russia or Indonesia?

Temp closed for off-topic cleanup.
Reopened. Please keep on topic. Which the viability of suggestions is based on what the Scratch Team is and isn't capable of doing with the limited resources we have, there's no good reason to be dragging other suggestions into this.

Adding countries flags to the library
(Thank you, cheddargirl!)
I think this presents a bit of a challenge. Not with keeping sprites updated or deciding what past countries count (none of them,) but with deciding what currently counts. What would be the stance on Palestine? Or Kosovo? Taiwan? There's not an answer to any of these that wouldn't make anyone angry. Not just like one or two people either, we'd be talking at least in the hundreds on Scratch. It's best not to open that can of worms.
A no-download workaround that comes to mind (aside drawing) is to ask another member for them to put the vector file in a project, which they can then put in the Backpack.
With sorrow, no support from me.

It irks me when people do this instead of just using strike through like this.. Not that big of deal, it’s just I see it a lot.

Well they could always go the route of doing all of those and being more inclusive, maybe just call them “places” no one can argue that they don’t exist.

Granted then where to draw the line of “places” it would be unfeasible to make all stare flags of every country. Idk, maybe go back to my previous suggestion and stay neutral by just doing UN members +observers?

If it was me personally, I'd throw them all in in a heartbeat, but that is by all accounts a political viewpoint. There are millions out there that do argue that these places don't exist, that the territory belongs to their home country, and I don't doubt that at least a few of them use Scratch and would throw a fit about it. If the world were a nicer place, then of course this would be a yes, but with what limited resources the Scratch Team has, it's not worth the effort to play with a subject as touchy as this. Well they could always go the route of doing all of those and being more inclusive, maybe just call them “places” no one can argue that they don’t exist.
edit: forgot you had another reply…
This would definitely be your best bet if an implementation were to happen, although you'd then exclude everyone I listed in my first reply. Which would cause the same outrage, I think. Idk, maybe go back to my previous suggestion and stay neutral by just doing UN members +observers?

Adding countries flags to the library
why was my post deleted
No support. To my knowledge, it's kinda shaky on what country is a real country.
Also, instead of wasting the Scratch Team's time by adding sprites to the costume library, download and import them yourself. Flags of countries are not hard to find.

Western Sahara? Greenland? England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland?
Just curious don’t mean to cause any political arguments.

Yeah, I hate to agree with you not trying to be offensive just saying that your point is unfortunately true but you’re probably right

Are you a geography nerd like me?

Yeah but a lot of those aren’t countries. (In fact most of them)
