It never said it would show your age. You're also allowed to share your age if you have not shared your birthdate. Ths shows your age, which doesn't follow Scratch's Guidelines.

Why would it share your age? Unless you have it written in your about me, no one could tell your age Ths shows your age, which doesn't follow Scratch's Guidelines.

With all due respect, that just makes it look like you might not be a Scratcher, as if the system is confused about your rank. Badly-made mockup for forums.

Badly-made mockup for forums.
We wouldn't really need one for the forums. We already have siggies which are functionally identical.

thanks for making a topic about this :P
I think there's valid point to either “side” stated here. On one hand, it would be very unnecessary, because come on, clicking a profile and going back will take what, 2.5 seconds? That's not a reasonably large amount of time at all. Now I, like everyone should, refer to people by the gender-neutral “they/them” pronoun if I'm unaware of their pronouns, and I can learn to memorize their preferred pronouns if I begin to interact with them more. On the other hand, admittedly, just clicking or hovering over a little icon would be more convenient, if you ignore the inconveniences of accidentally hovering over it and so on so forth. I'd say this is a better option than what has been previously discussed, but I don't see it being that necessary or that much more convenient.
Another idea would be to have a status/mini message option on profiles that would have a ~50 character limit, and would be put next to usernames on profiles and comments, kinda similar to Ocular's status implementation. It would allow users to put whatever they want, and I could see plenty of users using it for pronouns. Since the ST will update profile pages at some point, I could see this as a more convenient thing for them to develop. The only downside is it would be an extra thing to moderate.

xD /nay /nmActually, this isn't a bad idea. How about, to be more specific, the thing would only show text up to 50 characters, OR until a newline? That way you can't have newline spam, and if people just wanted one thing, like pronouns, or nothing at all, they could just put a newline.
Alt mockup maybe? Would remove the extra step of having to click the button. If it's just there I think more people will read it. Most about me's will have more info about the person I just didn't really want to share my info.
Also, maybe the thing should be next to the username instead; otherwise, it is confusing and looks like part of the comment.
So you essentially end up with a status, except it's governed by the first line of the About Me.
(And yes, I have read the other posts. I agree with censoring links too)
My point being that maybe it could be governed by the top of the About Me?

Oop, didn't read through this enough to see that post lol- But nonetheless I like that idea a lot better! The only issue I could see is the confusion that could come with it, and that some people may not want it. -snip-

This is a good idea, but one of the main reasons I wouldn't support this extension to the idea is that this would cause there to be a LOT more data to store, and this would make implementing this a LOT harder. I think it's a good idea to consider, but ultimately I don't see it as necessary. Another idea would be to have a status/mini message option on profiles that would have a ~50 character limit, and would be put next to usernames on profiles and comments, kinda similar to Ocular's status implementation.
Especially since the first two topics suggesting this got closed.

It doesn't. I don't have my age in my about me. so why would it show in the comments?? Ths shows your age, which doesn't follow Scratch's Guidelines.
If you put your age in your about me, then yes it would show your age. But if you didn't then you wouldn't.
Source: Check my about me, notice how there's no age? So this suggestion wouldn't show something that's not in my about me (duh)
Also, hate to be that person but
*This shows your age, which doesn't follow Scratch's Guidelines.

I support. I like the idea of hovering over a question mark and a popup about me showing up.
Also, I made a joke mockup.

Ohhhhh, got it. If it was governed by the top of the About Me, no extra data would need to be stored. It could increase loading times though.
So, the “top” would count as… what exactly? Also what problems would this solve that aren't solved by having the entire about me?
This will remind users that the about me exists, and allow you to quickly check it any time, just in case you forget something about a user. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see why you wouldn't just click on their profile if you want to read their about me.

Eagle138, you should probably address this concern in the OP, because it's been coming up a LOT, and it would be best to minimize restating points. (not that NanoRook did anything wrong it's just that it would be best to make it more clear.)

The top would be everything up to the first 50 characters or a newline. If the first character is a newline, the status will not show. People have stated that having the entire About Me isn't entirely necessary and having it optional means that less people would click it anyway, so I think this is a good middle ground. I think both are viable, it's good to have two possible solutions anyway so there is more possibility of Scratch adding one of them.Ohhhhh, got it. Good point, I'll try and summarize all of that in the OP. I need to edit it anyway to incorporate this as well. If you have time, do you think you could please make a mockup for the new suggestion? The status would be grey like in -Zorra-'s. Thanks for pointing that out btw.

So what? The most recent addition to Scratch was a new forum that honestly speaking wasn’t even really needed, but it’s still helpful to organize thoughts and it makes it easier for the kids on the site. This suggestion is much more useful than the other one, yet it’s still getting hate just for the fact that it will take time even though it’s actually very helpful….It takes away time from other things that could be getting done on the site, such as bug fixes and such. This isn't the most serious con. It isn't Yeah uhh things take time. How is that a con?really a problem with the suggestion, or something that the OP can fix, it's really a problem with Scratch Team and how they never have time to implement suggestions like this.

To be completely honest, I think that the idea in -Zorra-'s mockup will not work (no offense -Zorra-). I think that it will make the page a lot more… messy. Like, a lot of text on one page can be overwhelming, and I think this would be terrible for the overall look of the site. If you have time, do you think you could please make a mockup for the new suggestion? The status would be grey like in -Zorra-'s. Thanks for pointing that out btw.
I don't think that this solution would really be optimal either. You're kind of cutting the usefulness of this feature… for what? Why? Like, I think an entire about me is fine one at a time, and wouldn't be too overwhelming. I think this would really make this feature way less optimal. For example, mine would just be “I'm a boy.” and that's it. -Zorra-'s would be “pfp is by @stellanova13!” Neither of these are The top would be everything up to the first 50 characters or a newline. If the first character is a newline, the status will not show. People have stated that having the entire About Me isn't entirely necessary and having it optional means that less people would click it anyway, so I think this is a good middle ground.really going to help you get to know someone well in a conversation.

Now, I could see how both suggestions could go together well, and I think that's where you're coming from, right?
Uhhh… I support this… sorry if it came off as hate or something I totally agree. This topic is getting lots of unnecessary hate.
