I think it would be super cool if we could all the share button like we do on YouTube and Facebook so if we have a fine we could be like check this out and then we could headdress shell and not have to like drive-thru link over to them and it will be solved trust me

I think I get the idea that you want a share button, but that already exists. There's a copy link button on the bottom right of a project.

I think they mean that they want a share button so when you click it, your real-life contacts pop-up, and you could send a link to one of your real-life contacts. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this suggestion, but I do know code.org has something like this, where you put in a phone number and it sends it to said phone number.

Honestly, this is a nice idea, and I see how it would benefit some of Scratch, but I do have a few concerns about it.

Where would the sharing button be? That is a huge question that should be answered right away, and a mock-up of the design should be made to give users more of an idea of what this topic is suggesting.

There is also the fact that not everyone on Scratch has a phone or uses Scratch on a device with their phone number. A lot of Scratchers use computers, and some even use devices with their parent's phone numbers on them. The parents of young kids wouldn't be very happy if their kids sent random Scratch projects to their contacts. So, this really only benefits people with their own phone numbers on the device they use Scratch on.

In addition, this would be very low on the Scratch Team's priority list, so I doubt it will be added, even if it is acknowledged as a good suggestion that would benefit Scratch.

And why would you even need this when you can just copy the link of a project or studio and paste it into wherever you want?

Very bad mockup: just to get the general idea:

1. How is Scratch supposed to know your phone number? They don't collect such info
2. You can literally copy the link and send them. What this button do is only save one click. One click.

Basically, a button called “Share” that allows you to text/email it to your contacts.

1. It doesn't collect it; what I think it does is send a request on your phone to open your contacts (someone pls correct me on this if I'm wrong)
2. Number of clicks the current way: 8. Number of clicks this way: 3. It actually saves 5 clicks.
Before we start debating number of click, perhaps you guys might want to think if the number of saved clicks in the long run is worth the time and cost to implement a shared button. We are a non-profit, after all.

I actually don't think 5 clicks is a difference. A lot of things have a 5 click difference or more. Honestly, this suggestion only has a bit of support from me. I'm curious to see the ST's opinion though.

I think something is getting lost in translation - the question you guys need to ask yourself is this: is building a system to save clicks worth wasting non-profit money and developer time?

Wouldn't it be easier to just copy the link and send it to whoever you want? It makes a lot less sense to have a button like that when you think about it.

Hey guys, I would like to kindly ask that we all stop assuming what the OP is saying, and ask for clarification, before continuing the discussion. If we end up making pages of posts only for them to come back and say something like “that's not what I'm talking about at all” then we have successfully made pages worth of off-topic posts
