Minecraft Scratching The Surface: Hardcore

Minecraft Scratching The Surface: Hardcore (or just STS Hardcore or STSH for short) is a spinoff server of the main Scratching The Surface series of Minecraft servers here on Scratch. (See: STS, STSR, STS3, and STS4)

Introduction

STSH is an experimental mini-SMP inspired by 3rd Life, another SMP that took place on YouTube. In STSH, every player starts off with 3 lives and a green name. Your goal is to survive as long as possible, however if you die you will go down to 2 lives and have a yellow name. Now you have to be really careful because if you die one more time you'll be on your last life and have a red name. Here's the catch: when you're on your last life, all alliances become null and your goal becomes to kill the other players and be the last player standing. You're in a very vulnerable state though, as other players can fight red names in self defense, and when you lose your last life, you are permanently set to spectator mode and are out of the game. The last player alive wins the season of STS Hardcore!

*If after one month of the server starting there is still not a winner, it will go into a deathmatch mode where all players are set to their last life. If another week passes and there is still no winner, the current player alive who has the most player kills on the server is made the winner. In the event of a tie, the player with more playtime wins.*

General Rules

Intentionally PVPing, griefing, stealing, trapping, etc., is not allowed unless you are a red name or doing it in self defense from a red name.
Do not do anything that would not be allowed on Scratch.
Intentionally destroying the enchanting table at spawn is not allowed. If you do, I'll replace it anyway. (Note: you can take it, just not destroy it.)
Performing exploits that give an unfair advantage, such as going past the world border or duping items, is not allowed.
Using hacked clients, mods, or resource packs that give an unfair advantage, such as ones that manipulate your movement, provide x-ray abilities, or give an unfair advantage in PVP, is not allowed. If you are using a mod, it should not affect other players. (Note: OptiFine and Vanilla Tweaks are allowed though, in case you were wondering.)
Purposefully lagging out the server is not allowed.
Use common sense!

Minor offenses will result in a warning. But bigger offenses, depending on the severity, may result in losing a life or being set to spectator mode for the season as punishment.

How to join

This server is hosted on Minehut and is running on Paper 1.18.1. This is unfortunately because the plugins used do not work on the latest version of Minecraft, and so Bedrock players cannot play on this server, sorry. And on Java, you have to create an installation of your game on 1.18.1, if you haven't already.

If you would like to join, please make a post with your Minecraft username so I can whitelist you. Please read this entire post before asking to be whitelisted. Once you are whitelisted, you can connect to the server with the IP here:

Server IP: STSHardcore.minehut.gg

If the server is not running, you will be put into the Minehut lobby after attempting to join. To start and join the server, type /join STSHardcore in chat. You may need to run this command several times. Be patient and keep trying every 15-45 seconds. In some cases, the server may unexpectedly crash while playing on it. thanks, minehut. If this happens, do not be alarmed, simply wait a couple minutes for the server to start up again.

IMPORTANT - I will only accept more players a couple of days or so after the start of the server on June 30th. And if you are joining rather late, you may have to start with 1 or 2 lives instead of 3 to make it fair.

Modifications

There are a couple modifications on this server to make the game more interesting and fair that I've done through a combination of commands, the Skript plugin, and the CraftEnhance plugin.

The border: The world has a 700 by 700 world border in both the overworld and nether with the world spawn point being roughly in the middle of it. Note that in this small world there are no strongholds, so the end dimension cannot be entered. But don't worry, I have handpicked a seed which has a good variety of biomes, and that has a village, a bastion, and a nether fortress.

Anti-combat logging: If you damage a player or are damaged by a player, you will enter combat for 30 seconds. In this state, logging out will result in you losing a life, losing all of your items, and respawning at the world spawn point. However, you can safely logout once the 30 seconds have passed and the red text on your screen goes away.

Anti-PVPing: If you are not a red name, then you are unable to damage other players except for red names, in self defense.

Anti-totems: Evokers no longer drop totems and are therefore unobtainable.

Chainmail armor: To give them more of use, wearing chainmail armor gives extra effects! Helmets give water breathing, chestplates give haste, leggings give resistance, and boots give swiftness.

Grace period: The first time you spawn in the world, and whenever you lose a life and respawn, you will have a 10 minute grace period in which you have resistance and cannot take any damage. However, during this grace period, you cannot damage any other players either. (note: if you want, you can be able to damage other players but also be able to take damage again by drinking milk)

Player heads: Players drop their head upon being killed by another player, with the item name being the color of what life they lost. (ex. if a green name is killed, they will drop their head with a green name) Players who combat log also drop their head.

Locate player command: When the deathmatch begins after one month, all players gain access to the “/location <player>” command. This command gives you the coordinates and dimension of any player currently online. (ex. typing “/location DevDav” will tell you my coordinates and the dimension I'm in if I'm online!)

Go to player command: All players who lose all of their lives and get set to spectator mode gain access to the “/goto <player>” command. This command teleports you to any player that is currently online. It even works interdimensionally! (ex. typing “/goto DevDav” will teleport you to my coordinates and dimension if I'm online, assuming you're in spectator mode. If you're not in spectator mode this command gives an error.)

Crafting Recipes and Enchanting: Due to the smaller world, nametags and saddles can now be crafted. The recipe for TNT has also changed to take only one gunpowder (replacing the rest of the gunpowder with paper) to make it easier to get. The recipes for enchanting tables and bookshelves have also been disabled. This is to make enchanting and getting OP gear harder. Instead, there is a single enchanting table at spawn that can be used. (and fought over… however only red names can mine it) Ender chests are also disabled as they're too OP. Recommendations

To help keep track of everything, posting whenever you lose a life, or when some other notable event happens, would be greatly appreciated!
When you first start off, making farms is a good idea, otherwise all the animals will quickly be hunted due to the small world.
You can make multiple versions of your skin to go along with the amount of lives you currently have, like this!:

June 23 - the discussion topic is created

June 24 - three new features added, two of which being new commands to make things easier

June 25 - start date of the server changes to June 30

June 25 - poll for the location of the enchantment table begins (current votes: 2 for spawn, 1 for temple, and 0 for fortress)

June 26 - grace periods are tweaked so that you cannot attack other players when in your grace period (this is to avoid unfair PVP fights where one player is literally invincible for 10 minutes)

June 28 - ender chests made no longer craftable and the enchantment table made so only red names can steal it

June 29/30 - server begins!

I was talking with Ian on STS4 (he also wanted to be whitelisted) and he said that on July 4th us Americans are probably gonna be doing stuff, which is true, so instead the server's gonna be starting July the first! And since there's still a week from the server's start, I suppose I have time to add some more features. Like players dropping their head when killed, and when the deathmatch happens I could add a command or a compass item that tells the coords or points to the nearest player, so people can't hide. Any objections to any of that?

Villagers are annoying, so sure, count me in! (We just can't kill villagers already claimed by someone, including cured zombie villagers. (Unless we're red names of course.)) An SMP without OP trading halls and villagers would be a nice change of pace.
