Add a plastic bottle sprite.

didn't find a dupe

Let's add a water bottle sprite, why you ask? Because this could be used for water bottle flipping projects, for shopping projects, and educational pollution projects. Y'all have bottled milk (carton milk) so why not bottle the water? But this isn't a suggestion to remove the glass of water sprite, this is just to show bottle drinkers some support since a glass usually means it's filtered water. Sure, you could import one yourself from the internet, but it would be in bitmap, making it less accessible to work with. Plus, a plastic bottle is a very common item.

There would be 5 costumes in the sprite, empty, quarter full, half full, 3-quarters full, and full

Edit: Make that 6 costumes, the 6th one would be a crunched-up bottle (Thanks for giving me the idea!)

Edit 2: Maybe there could be different colored liquids, to go with other drinks

Edit 3: There would be an empty label, so you could make it any drink you want.

Here's Jbear_'s awesome mock-up:

This is gdfsgdfsgdfg's goodness, did you smash your keyboard when entering your username great mock-up:

~Mexicanboyrrv Rodri

my family just moved to filtered water because bottled water is so expensive now- like everything else
This is Rodri btw, I made this suggestion with my old account…(very cringe)

It would not be bad to have a water bottle sprite as I can see it being used, but you can just get a picture online of a bottle, so I don't see this coming near the priority list anytime soon.

Support. I could see this bieng used as litter. Or as a drink. Or as a load of other things!

^ But I think it will not be on the top of their priority list if the ST consider this.

I think OP might have meant vector water bottle sprite since an image downloaded from somewhere else would probably be in bitmap

Maybe it should be a costume in the soft drink sprite.

No, I think there should be 5 costumes in the sprite, empty, quarter full, half full, 3-quarters full, and full.

Yeah, that makes more sense.

You can probably still find animated water bottle sprites on the internet.

Well, what are they looking for then? I think they do want an animated water bottle sprite.

I've been seeing a lot of “ADD THE {OBJECT} SPRITE” topics recently here. One thing that I don't understand why they should be added is, what's the point? Many of these sprites are easily drawn by yourself in the Scratch editor, or you can take assets with credit from other people's games. After all, Scratch's motto is, “Imagine, Program, Share”. Having the site devs add every single sprite takes away from the Imagine part because they're drawing for you, so I think we should keep the DIY aspect of Scratch.

But then I can see many of you reading this and thinking, “But, RL1123, what's the point of the sprite library in then? If you think it takes away from creativity, why shouldn't we just remove it altogether?”

Although that's a fair point, the sprite library exists to inspire new scratchers about what to create in a project. Those scratchers don't know how to operate the paint editor yet, so they have to use some premade sprites. So in that case, yes, the water bottle sprite would be useful. However, the examples listed in the OP require some kind of intermediate coding knowledge, much of that new scratchers would not be able to understand how to create it. And those cases are extremely rare and in between, so adding this wouldn't help at all.

And I'd rather have the Scratch developers work on something more worthwhile like updating pages to the 3.0 look instead of pumping the sprite library full of random things.

Shortened to one sentence: We don't need this because it's useless

A vector plastic bottle, I also want it to have 5 costumes, empty, quarter full, half full, 3-quarters full, and full.

It surely can't be hard to draw, unless you're trying to make some high-quality thing. In that case, use something someone already made.

Not everyone knows how to draw. Even those that do might not know how to draw a water bottle. Even those that do might not be confident enough in their drawing abilities to feel comfortable putting their hand-drawn water bottle in their project. If someone feels that the Scratch sprite library contains sprites that are of enough quality for someone to include in their projects, it's not illogical for someone to want the Scratch Team to add more sprites.

RL1123 wrote:

True, but then there's the issue of whether or not you can actually find a good sprite. All too often I've tried to find sprites from other projects that don't satisfy my requirements: they don't fit the art style of my game, the sprite is bitmap rather than vector, etc… Thus I must resort to drawing it myself and dealing with the consequences.

RL1123 wrote:

…isn't “Share” also a part of the motto? There is no indication that Scratch must be fully DIY, or even 50% DIY. I would argue that the “Imagine” part has more to do with what you decide to create with these sprites (through coding and movement) rather than strictly about drawing them.

Hey, yeah, I was thinking that same thing. Let's see what the response is…

Agreed.

The OP says “this could be used for water bottle flipping projects and for shopping projects.” I don't think you need intermediate coding knowledge to make either of these. A water bottle flipping project could be basic controls with a mouse or arrow keys. A shopping project can be a simple point-and-click game. Sure, they may be basic examples, but that's all you'd need to determine the worthiness of a sprite.

Determining whether or not updating the rest of the website to 3.0 is worthwhile is a separate debate that I'd rather not get into here. Personally I'd rather see the Scratch Team update the website in ways that they think is best.

Between you, me, and the OP, we've listed several uses for this sprite.
