Why did the ditch 2008
It probably doesn't look very good as a small icon.
They also probably ditched the 2008 icon because by 2011 3D glassy icons were out of date and style.
mobile was also getting a lot bigger and it didn't really work as an app icon

True, since it has lots of detail. But if i were in charge of the Chrome logo I'd set it to the 2008 one. Same for Firefox and Safari, I'd choose the logos they had around 5-7 years before.

Now the browsers topic has become the 2008 Chrome logo topic

I can see why the Chrome logo was changed…
It looked weird and mechanical at the start, but then it started to look more modern and contemporary, later evolving into the modern Chrome logo.

Yeah, honestly it looks really robotic and creepy, now it just looks like a camera lens signifying Google always watching you

True…for some reason I have to littrely use Google Chrome on mobile. I use Microsoft Edge on my laptop. I never use a Google product except Translate, Chrome (forced to use), Google Search (forced to use), YouTube (no MS alternative, ms make Microsoft Video Public….LOL) and Android (no Windows Phone and I hate iOS)

And Chrome is spying on them.
Also, my favourite Safari icon is the old one.

The old ones are quite good here are the things I like about them:
1)The thing I like about the old Safari logo is because it looks quite good.
2)The thing I like about the old Firefox logo is because looks like it is holding the world.
3)The thing I like about the old Chrome logo is because it looks like a real camera shutter.

Outdated design, 3D icons are out of date. It would never work.

IMO if a company switched to a 3D design of their logo, I'm 100% sure the majority of people would like it.
