The Guide to the Suggestions forum (DON’T suggest here!)

Welcome!
Welcome to the guide to the suggestions forum! This is the place on the best ways to make topics proposing ideas for Scratch and what you should do on other suggestions.
Before making a suggestion
Do not make list of suggestions That are not relevant to each other. It is better to make a topic for each suggestion so the discussion in a thread stays focused on one suggestion. See this post for more information.

Is your suggestion rejected? You can just quickly search if it is using the keyboard shortcut CTRL/Command + F.
Is your suggestion a duplicate? You can search it up using the keyboard shortcut CTRL/Command + F on the suggestions directory and/or search your title you are going to use with ocular. Type your title in the title speech marks and press enter. Remember - even if a suggestion topic is really old, your suggestion will still be a duplicate of it if they are suggesting the same idea.
Making a suggestion
1. Title
Title your suggestion clearly. Here are some example titles for someone who wants to suggest a Redesign for profile pages:

Person wrote:

My Suggestion
This is not a good title as it tells nothing about what your suggestion is about.

Person wrote:

Redesigns for Scratch
This is still not a good title as it is vague and has redundancy. Of course, it is for Scratch, so without the redundancy, we have “redesigns” which does not tell what the user wants to redesign.

Person wrote:

Redesign for Profile pages
This is a good title - clear and concise.
2. Write
Write your suggestion as clear as you can with reasoning backing why you want your idea to be implemented. Always remember to follow the community guidelines as well.
3. Add
If someone suggests something to add to your suggestion or something to make it better, consider it.
Is it something you like? Is it something that still fits in with your original suggestion?
If it is, then add it to your suggestion.
People may disagree with your suggestion. If that happens, do not start a “flame war” and instead politely tell them your thoughts on their feedback. If it is reasonable, try to offer a solution to the problem.
Bumping
  • Only bump your topic if it is been 24 hours since the last post and it is not on the front page.
  • Only bump if you believe your topic can get more discussion on it. If most posts are bumps and it seems no one wants to discuss your suggestion, bump it less frequently or even stop bumping it altogether.
Responding to suggestions
  • If do say you like/don’t like an idea, please go into further detail about why, although always try to give feedback as well.
  • When responding to suggestions, always try to look for opportunities to make the suggestion better as this helps an idea expand. It is very constructive.
  • If you disagree with a suggestion, try not to say “no support” as that puts your post in a negative tone.
  • Overall, the support convention (which is saying support/semi-support/no support) is not that useful to the forums as a voting system is not needed - the constructive reasoning on your post is what matters. See this post for more information.
  • When responding to suggestions, try and bring up something that has not been said.
  • Whilst it is fine to compare other ideas on topics, please do not derail topics by trying to discuss another suggestion, unless that suggestion is trying to improve that one.
  • If the topic is still relevant (suggestion hasn't been added/suggestion to fix a bothering issue) then it is always OK to post on it if it is constructive no matter the age of the topic.
If you think there is anything else I can add, feel free to let me know!
Credits
Credit to the last sticky as this one is the same apart from a few minor tweaks.

No - that is not relevant to the suggestions forum

Nope, I would prefer linking my directory as it is not an external site and is easier to use

Just because one sticky did does not mean I have to. I would rather advertise the suggestions directory due to the reasons above

Congratulation on the new sticky! This will go down in history as a groundbreaking sticky!

Congrats on getting another sticky!

You might want to link to the older sticky somewhere as it does look like you've adapted it a little.

I would think it wise to mention that one can still make a “list of suggestions,” but the suggestions must be closely related.

You should talk about Ocular because that's a good way to find duplicates of your suggestions, I hate when people are like “This is a DUPE!” in a suggestion that that happens.

Nope, I’ve linked the suggestions directory and that is better as it is on the scratch and easier to use.

I would advise you not to put your personal opinions in a stickied guide.

That is not personal opinions the support convention is just adding one more two words to the post and saying “no support” can make your post go in to a negative tone and close your tags.

I disagree and many others disagree. I would suggest you change it to something neutral (as stickies should be neutral) like “You can use Support/No support, but you do not have to”
