Hi Scratch Team (and Scratch community)!

In light of the recent studio updates, I have a few things that I'd like to say. If you are a Scratch Team member reading this, please read it through and try to understand where I'm coming from. It would mean a lot and would provide a perspective on changes to the site that you may not have otherwise gotten.

The recent studio updates were made with absolutely no warning beforehand. Scratchers had no idea that this was coming and could not prepare for it in any way. As someone who does not do well with change, this is really hard for me. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but I've been using Scratch for almost 8 years and am very used to the old studio format. It was a big shock to me when it changed (especially because there was no warning). Since Scratch turned to 3.0, I haven't made all that many projects and haven't felt comfortable using the editor to make art. I don't want this to happen with studios, but at this point it honestly might. A lot of my Scratch existence is in studios, and this might make that go away. Please notify Scratchers of changes to the site beforehand - at least a few days, preferably a couple weeks. It would really have helped.

There was also no feedback taken from the Scratch community during the process of coming up with the updates or before the updates were published. This site is becoming more and more controlled and it may result in a lot of us losing an essential community of people in our lives. A lot of people on this site communicate with each other through studios and otherwise share their work and accomplishments in this way. If you had gathered feedback on the changes while they were still in the making, I think this update would have had gained a very different reaction from the community. If you change anything on the website (such as forums, profiles, projects, or anything else), please solicit our feedback beforehand.

If you are a Scratch Team member reading this and have questions about my requests or responses as to why you did not do these things, please respond below. If you are a Scratch community member and would like to add your story or support onto mine, please do so as well!

Thank you for reading this through and taking my perspective into consideration.

They appear to already announce it on Github, but support since not everyone uses it.

Yes, I agree 100% with getting our feedback beforehand. They should have released a few images on how it was going to look and got our opinion on it. How is something that makes the community so angry better for the ST? I'm so upset right now, too.

Support because recently the Community Guidelines changed, and I didn't check the Scratch News panel to the right of “What's happening?” so I didn't find out until later.

Support!

I made a similar, more technical, version of such a suggestion before the update, but I forgot if it was closed. XD I know my reply limit reverting suggestion was closed by the Scratch Cat. LOL!

The Community Guidelines changed? I had literally no idea. That's honestly completely unacceptable…

Only managers being useless was a last-minute update. The other ones, they just ignored all discussion for and all feedback against.

Support! There have been many updates that Scratchers have not been able to be aware of until they were actually put into place. A minor example of this is are the new Black Lives Matter and Progress flag emojis. In the comments of my Juneteenth project, many Scratch users were shocked to hear about the new emojis, even though they had been out for a a few days, and the announcement was about them was on Scratch News. This wasn't a huge change to the site, but it was still something many Scratch users were not aware about.

I've also come across many users who were unaware of the community guidelines update, and people who were not aware of the future (now present) comment limit in studios.

Scratch Team needs to make a better way to inform the entire community of updates, and give us a way to be aware of new updates before they happen.

Absolutely! Maybe an email and message in our message box as well as the Scratch News section update and a banner at the top of every page.

Support for this idea! Maybe it could pop up as an “alert”? or have its own section - “updates from the scratch team”?

Also, i'd like to bring up only way people were notified of the release date (aside from people sharing that info) were via Transifex, which you can only access if you contribute to translations.
This is a REALLY BIG AND IMPORTANT announcement, and only a few people could access that info?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? What is going on with you, Scratch Team?!?
Fuller than fullest Support.

I like the alert idea! Even if it's just telling you to check the announcements forums, that'd be a huge plus!

Yes! Maybe it could have something like “Scratch is changing! *short description of the change* You can find more info here: *link to forum post*”
