Nah - we need a default sprite so a new user can familiarise the blocks in a sprite.

Support. Is kind of annoying, and I'd prefer it to just be blank

Yeah, it's a real shame that there's Nah - we need a default sprite so a new user can familiarise the blocks in a sprite. no other way that a new user could do that. Besides, they might hit their head every time they get off of Scratch, so they may forget how to do that, so it's a good thing that there's a sprite so they can always familiarize themselves, forever.

I think that you start out with Scratch Cat because you have to have at least 1 costume in a sprite…

No, there are backdrops, too. If it was blank, the default white backdrop would be counted as a costume in a sprite. I think that you start out with Scratch Cat because you have to have at least 1 costume in a sprite…
Support btw.

I mean, it's not obvious to everyone. The first day I downloaded the Scratch 1.4 offline editor, I spent all night trying to figure out how to click and drag a script so I could program my own code. I was 12 years old at the time. Certainly there are other new Scratchers out there who get confused with the Scratch editor for their first time at that age, or younger.Yeah, it's a real shame that there's Nah - we need a default sprite so a new user can familiarise the blocks in a sprite. no other way that a new user could do that. My point is, I think the Scratch Cat appears so that whenever a newcomer visits the project editor, they have a sprite that they can play with, drag around, change the size, etc. Then they have some familiarity with what Scratch can do before they learn how to create a new sprite. Plus, it's not too hard to delete the Scratch Cat sprite in each new project if you want to, anyway.

The Scratch 1.4 editor did not have a tutorial the first time you booted it up. When you make a new account and create a new project, you are immediately brought into the Getting Started tutorial, and after that, you get the option of “add a backdrop” and “add a sprite”. It's pretty much impossible to miss. I mean, it's not obvious to everyone. Semi-support. I would rather leave it to user choice as an option.

I agree with Za-chary, we need a starter sprite so a new user has one the first time, and they can play with it.Yeah, it's a real shame that there's Nah - we need a default sprite so a new user can familiarise the blocks in a sprite. no other way that a new user could do that. But maybe it disappears for scratchers?

It doesn't take a month to learn how sprites work. It should only appear when the Getting Started tutorial is used, which happens by default when you are signed out and the first time you use the editor when signed in. But maybe it disappears for scratchers?

I think that there should be a checkbox to start with a completely blank project. That is, no scratch cat, no my variable, no message1 brodcast. This would be turned on by default, but it's annoying to have to delete everything if you want to start with a completely blank project.
