If it saved after you deleted the sprite, you can't get it back.

Yes a version history feature would be very much appreciated!

You can occasionally make copies of the project, or if you are collaborating, remix each other's project.
Support if only available offline.

Cant you just make a plugin that can attach scratch to Git?

So if your game auto saves as you accidently deleted everything, you lost everything, unless you had it saved somewhere else. All that hard work is gone. If Scratch adds a feature to check you saved version history, with a revert to version feature, you get get back your previous saved work.

Post your support BELOW!
semi-support, I'd support it normally but you can already undo, right-click then click undo. if you've already left, then you're doomed

Semi-support. As one has brought up, it could affect server space. Although, if you make a mistake, there is an undo limit meaning that you could lose hours of hard work. Back-ups (which are like this) could actually just be saved to the computer and you can upload it if you make an error, though thats just like Saving it and uploading it

No support. If you're working on an important project it's always not that hard to save versions locally to your computer as you wish. However this idea would probably take up large amounts of server space and there is also an undo button (right click –> undo) and a sprite restore button (edit menu in the top left –> restore sprite) in case you delete anything you didn't want to.

Those only work with one change. Accidentally delete a second sprite and now the first sprite is gone forever.

bump

I support, there has been so many times I'm experimenting and this thing auto-saves, then the experiment breaks the whole project.
and maybe viewers could also access these if the project is shared?

How about a “Turn off auto save” option in settings? There is the save now button. I don't think a save history will help much with this.

No support, this takes up to much server space for not too big of a feature.

I mean, it's easily forgivable to delete one sprite, but if you delete two sprites, imo that's generally a “you” problem (not to mention, like how often does that actually happen?)

I agree with you but that could happen because:
A. You are not focusing
B. You don't speak english and are trying to do something and manage to delete a sprite
C. Your little brother is feeling angry
D Your little brother “wants to try”

My point is that that COULD happen.

No-Support. Just use the save as a copy button, and don't experiment on your good copy.

I think that saving issues like this, project security, and the size limit are all reasons why using the offline editor is infinitely better than the online one, and the offline editor should be standard for “serious” Scratch developers. It's infeasible to store copies of every single project on the site, especially enough to make a worthwhile back-up feature with autosave.

But this is not automated. And it really doesnt resolve the problem in my view.

You are right. You could store only a one copy and you COULD make a clone anyway. (Not recommending) but it would be possible. Scratch offline is better. I would like to there to exist like a scratch desktop ONLINE where A. The scratwh website would be fully functional and B. You edited offline and C. Published projects online.
