You can just do this, it is very easy. (in this example, xpos is a slider variable)
when green flag clicked
forever
set x to (xpos)
end
Even though the example is x position, you apply this method to:
(x position)
(y position)
(direction)
(costume #)
(size)
(backdrop #)
(volume)
(tempo)
For the others, mouse x/y can't be changed with scratch according to rejected suggestions, the timer shouldn't be able to be manually changed except to be reset and all the other ones being sliders just wouldn't work.
but it would be orange

So, built-in variables can only be in a normal or large readout. Why not have the option for a slider? It would fit well, and would be quite useful.

Why? Scratch's forums aren't a ballot box, they are a discussion board!

Great thought. Why couldn't this be extended to all numerical built-in reporters?
(days since 2000)
(current [ v])
…except for these. These report attributes of things that can't be changed by Scratch, (mouse, loudness, current, days since 2000, video, distance), or would be extremely weird to have sliders (timer)
Coward! You're just afraid Scratch's sheer power
Exactly, you just don't know how much Scratch can do..
