Make the giant delete sprite button smaller (though preferably remove it altogether)
bump
There's no reason for the button to even be there. Why only a delete button? Why not a duplicate or export button instead?
Support for removing it.

Make the giant delete sprite button smaller (though preferably remove it altogether)
I'm about a month late, though I want to avoid using settings at all costs. There should be no point for a setting for something as simple as a button when there are many more intricacies of Scratch that have the same or greater significance. That's why I changed the title and the OP to reflect my new opinion that while removing the button entirely is preferable for me, making the button smaller is an easier solution and one that works on mobile devices. I'd say we should be able to choose to:
1. Remove the option entirely (as a setting)
2. Resize to a desired size (also as a setting)

Support! I had a friend who was working on an animation for weeks, then accidently deleted the main sprite.

Maybe there could be a pop up message if you click the button saying something like “Are you sure?”.

That has been suggested before, and it's a good idea, but it would be nice if the button was removed completely. Maybe there could be a pop up message if you click the button saying something like “Are you sure?”.
To OP: support, the button didn't exist before Scratch 2.0 and I don't think anyone had problems with not knowing how to delete a sprite. And because even the delete button in the context menu can be accidentally clicked, there should also be either a confirmation or a message with an undo button.

No support for removing it all-together. Say, you`re in the sprite library getting gobo. But you click the goblin. You hate goblins and they creep you out. You want it out. You have to delete it.
No support for if you accidentally click it because there`s a key you can press to get it back. And you wouldn`t delete two.

How about a compromise? The delete button is 50% smaller. Does that help?read the post right before yours: No support for removing it all-together. Say, you`re in the sprite library getting gobo. What if we implemented this and asked for confirmation for sprite deletion? Combining the two suggestions sounds like a good idea.

That would work. What if we implemented this and asked for confirmation for sprite deletion? Combining the two suggestions sounds like a good idea.

Please tell me this would be toggleable, because I would not like to have to click an “OK” button every time I delete a sprite. What if we implemented this and asked for confirmation for sprite deletion? Combining the two suggestions sounds like a good idea.

How many sprites do you delete per day? Please tell me this would be toggleable, because I would not like to have to click an “OK” button every time I delete a sprite. What if we implemented this and asked for confirmation for sprite deletion? Combining the two suggestions sounds like a good idea.

It doesn't matter. A toggle is obviously better. How many sprites do you delete per day? Please tell me this would be toggleable, because I would not like to have to click an “OK” button every time I delete a sprite. I think the best design would be an alert with an “Undo” button. Please tell me this would be toggleable, because I would not like to have to click an “OK” button every time I delete a sprite. Maybe at the bottom of the screen it would be like “You have deleted the sprite ()” With the button RedoI think the best design would be an alert with an “Undo” button. Please tell me this would be toggleable, because I would not like to have to click an “OK” button every time I delete a sprite.
