LegoWEdo and Pico Circuits

I dont understand at all what LegoWEdo and Pico Circuits do. I don't know how they make a difference. Could somebody please explain how it works? I know you can't show any use or examples of them in the posts at the forum so maybe you can explain in words or create a project which will explain their uses more. Thank you so much if you do take up your time to explain to me how it works!

LegoWEdo and Pico Circuits

These are both hardware and are not necessary for Scratch to work. However, you can use Scratch to control a WeDo motor or gather sensor data from a tilt or distance sensor included in the WeDo kit. Some people use Scratch software (free) rather than the LEGO WeDo software which has to be purchased. The pico board is sold by SparkFun and it connects to your computer through the USB port. It primarily monitors resistance, reporting a value from 1-100 or whether or not a button is pressed, reporting TRUE or FALSE. It too can be used within Scratch programs much like a primitive game controller as a way to interact with sprites.
