"Recommended Projects" Bar on Home Page
it looks like this post has been necroposted but eh
i'd say semi support because i rather not have the scratch team collect *that* much data about me. and also i can see people abusing the tags system for this and it seems like a pretty unnecessary change.
but let's say the scratch team did this with data they already had and somehow all of scratch decided to use tags for what they're meant for then sure i'd love it.

They're not collecting data about you-it wouldn't be saved. If I'm not mistaken, this is more like a ‘similar projects’ bar, based on the tags attached to the project and projects with the same or similar tags. Also, what's so scary about the ST knowing that I like Pokemon or entering art contests? it looks like this post has been necroposted but eh

I agree with the rest, though- if someone knew Warrior Cats was popular on Scratch, they could just put the tag #WarriorCats so their project would show up in the recommended projects bar. However, it could also be a way for unpopular or underrated projects to get noticed- so Semi-Support.

This could technically also be an idea that could serve relatively the same purpose as an “underrated” bar

(Sorry for the necropost, but I'm coming from a dupe thread) How about, instead of ‘people who viewed this project also viewed, ’ it's ‘people who loved this project also loved?’ That would probably reduce the computing load, and you can weight more recent loves heavier than loves that happened years ago.

It is impossible for a project to have 0 views, but it is possible for a project to have 0 loves. How about, instead of ‘people who viewed this project also viewed, ’ it's ‘people who loved this project also loved?’

Support if optional.
You don't have to post if three other people have posted the exact same thing.

What if there was an algorithm that checked what type of projects a certain Scratcher watches (the info will not be transferred to the Scratch Team, of course) and it conjures up a section full of other things a Scratcher might want to watch? If a New Scratcher joins, it could just show projects that New Scratchers have been watching a lot (and maybe also trending projects, but that would just be another useless row that promotes fame - and I don't think the community really needs that atm) too.
The only problem is: this system would give Scratchers a higher chance to find projects that are not in their language or are inappropriate, since no Scratchers or members of the Scratch Team might've actually seen and “reviewed” the project.

sound like Scratch is going to track you, what next? Scratch gets #18plus Imagine this: You're on youtube, and you see a video on the sidebar. You click on it, and it's by a person you aren't subscribed to. So you subscribe to them, because you like the video. Why not put something like that on scratch? It would give more use to the “tags” functionality, and give other scratchers more publicity.

I see this as basically the same as personalized ads.
7.8 Project advertisements on the Scratch websiteMostly the last line.
Some users are interested in having advertisements around the website which advertise Scratch projects or studios, even if they are not paid for these advertisements. However, it is unclear how projects would be chosen to be advertised. Also, this would require a Scratch Team member to ensure that inappropriate projects are not chosen to be advertised, and the Scratch Team does not currently have the resources to do this.

Yeah I thought of that too, and some projects aren't even tagged period.
I almost never tag my projects, so I don't think its a good idea if its related to tags.

I think they would need to be reviewed by the ST before being able to appear in the recommended section. What about inappropriate projects?

I won't say not supported, but it would be very difficult for Scratch's servers to pull off, considering there are approximately 68M Scratch users that would have different recommended tabs, and keeping all of that information loaded would be a nightmare for servers. Not to mention that whatever AI that's created for this purpose would give recommended pages to Scratchers that have never viewed projects, or Scratchers that haven't used Scratch in a very long time. Please remember that when making suggestions for large features, to account that Scratch's servers, such as cloud variable servers and other types, run on donation, and 68M users > Scratch Donations. Thank you! Imagine this: You're on youtube, and you see a video on the sidebar. You click on it, and it's by a person you aren't subscribed to. So you subscribe to them, because you like the video.
