Hello! If you are anything like me, you like making new projects, messing around with code and experimenting. Since scratch cat is the first thing most people see when they make a new project, I came up with this idea.

I propose to you a brand-new design for the Scratch Cat!

It gives our little friend a brand new look with a whole lot of differences from his previous design. In case you are interested, here are the changes I made to achieve the redesign:


∙ A less… Let's just say uncomfortable posture, but still “Ready to Move, Ready for Action.” -@mres, "Birth of the Scratch Cat"

∙ Shading

∙ The whiskers on scratch cat's cheek are matched up and more even

∙ The eyes were changed to look at the camera just a little bit more (it's barely noticeable in my opinion)

∙ The eyes are slightly bigger


Oh, and if you are wondering, yes, I am currently trying to redesign the rest of the gang (gobo, pico, tera, ect.)

What do you think about the new design?

I wanna say that the original original original Scratch Cat is iconic; but wow, that's a very good redesign! I think that this might have a chance of being added to the sprite librarby- however, I doubt that it will fully replace the Scratch Cat

Support! Scratch cat looks more relaxed, and not like a statue.

a pretty good redesign, but I think if the Scratch Team were to change the sprite, I would imagine they would use one matching the style of Scratch Cat here

I cant say an opinion, it looks great but then…

It's very similar, but the posture does look more natural and just in general more refined. I think the eyes were meant to look forward, which is different in your version (you made one eye look slightly down and the other look straight out in the z direction). The thing I'm most opposed to is the shading; this makes it more difficult when editing it with reshape, might not match with the lighting that a user would like in their project, and doesn't match with any of the other sprites in the costume library.

I don't think that changing it is necessary, and it will be slightly strange for projects to all suddenly be different (it has barely changed before, but this would be a bigger change than ever). The scratch identity is strongly based on the current cat, which is why all changes have been very minor so far.

Making smaller changes from the original to still achieve some of the same goals as your new design would be approved by me, but for now, some of these changes still need work.

You don't have to delete it. I simply hide it and it becomes great for reducing lag!

Just reshape it and make the outline thinner.

I'd say, I like it! It looks cool, more realistic and has a great use of shading. However, I think we should keep the old scratch cat in the sprite library if this was implemented by the scratch team, so that the projects that use the old sprite wouldn't have to change sprites. I think adding more costumes would be cool too.

Due to the original design being in favor, the designers of the sprites decided not to use that style (cosmicat).

I'm stuck in the middle. While the new Scratch Cat looks great, the original is more iconic - a part of Scratch history. Plus, all of the other sprites (Gobo, Nano, Pico, etc.) wouldn't match with him. I'm not completely turning down the thumb, though. Of course it looks great - but there are some other variables to consider.

What if this scratch cat was be a sprite you can add but not the default.
