Wait. What IS an open source project?

I saw the definition once.
But I don't get it.

An open source project is one that anyone can see the code to, modify it to make their own project and distribute it and their own versions. For example, anyone can make copies of linux and see the code for free.

Basically Inspect from Microsoft Edge in a nutshell, right?

Mhm. Another good example would be the See Inside button here on Scratch.

The opposite of open source is closed source. You can't see the code at all, and trying to do so will likely be illegal (depending on the terms of service of the software).

I don't quite understand them either. as ResExsention said they are stuff you can view the code to. But, can't you do that on all projects?

IKR. Maybe it's something with bases(e.g. a Cookie Runner one which is average in terms of popularity) for an example?

Yes, you can. Scratch itself is open source (you can see the code on Github), and projects are equally accessible.

Well, this probably means that you can see all of the code of a project using the ‘see inside’ button

Open Source (Also referred to as Free Software, but there is a difference) is basically the See Inside button. Anyone can freely access the original source and modify it freely under the terms of the license (In the case of Scratch projects, that would be the CC-BY-SA). Free Software is basically a more political version of Open Source with extra requirements to be classed as such, which you can see on the Free Software Foundation's website.
