Be able to mute music on a scratch project.
I often find it annoying when I am trying to play on a scratch game or read a slideshow whilst listening to something else, and there is unmutable loud audio. I think that like youtube and roblox, scratch should have a built in feature which allows you to control the volume of music/ mute it, in a project

Firefox has the feature to just mute a tab. I think that every major browser has that.

Unfortunately, not everyone uses firefox, and cannot solve the problem by doing that.

You can go inside a project and get the block
set volume to (0) %This should make the music silent.

Doesn't every current browser has the tab mute option?
And there may be a block that sets the volume, so that doesn't work always.

There used to be a feature in 2.0 where you would ctrl-click the green flag and the project would play with all sound muted. I know I can just mute the tab but I miss that, it was very handy. Support for that!

That would actually be nice, but a little speaker icon in the row where the green flag and stop are would be even better.

The problem is that, to mute the tab, sound has to be playing already, so if you don't want the project to make any noise you have to first mute the computer, then play the project, then mute the tab and unmute the computer. A little speaker icon in the corner or even just the ctrl-click shortcut would be so much more convenient. Every browser as that. Just mute the projects' tab

Okay. I have an idea: It could get implimented that, for example, the music that's in the backdrop “sprite” is muted so only the background music is muted, since it's normally in the backdrop section.

No, you can just right-click on the tab, at least in firefox. And if something works in firefox, then it normally also does in Chrome, IE, Edge … The problem is that, to mute the tab, sound has to be playing already
I actually do this all the time.

Oh, that is correct. I had forgotten you could do that. No, you can just right-click on the tab, at least in firefox. And if something works in firefox, then it normally also does in Chrome, IE, Edge … The problem is that, to mute the tab, sound has to be playing already

I guess, but every project has a different sprite that plays music, so this would only work for some projects. If this gets implemented, it should mute everything or just not exist. Okay. I have an idea: It could get implimented that, for example, the music that's in the backdrop “sprite” is muted so only the background music is muted, since it's normally in the backdrop section.
For example I like to have one sprite that plays music so all the music-playing scripts can go there instead of in the stage, so that I can use the stage for things the stage is responsible for, like changing level etc.

Maybe there should be a
<background music :: blue>block together with the music expansion and events?

Interesting.
This would certainly be useful, regardless whether it's a built-in feature on search engines or not. Even I only learnt that the feature exists when I read this topic, so I can see many other Scratchers not knowing about it. And also, maybe some users want to listen to some fun music while surfing projects, but to stop the Scratch sound, they currently have to mute the tab (which like I said, not many people know about), and if they don't know it, they have to turn down the sound on their entire computer. Disabling Scratch sound would make it a lot easier to enjoy some fun music and also surf through projects at the same time.
And like you said, YouTube and Roblox have it and I find the fact that they have the feature very convenient. Scratch has more reason to implement this than Roblox has, too.
