Don't make emojis automatic in the forums
Have you ever tried to use an emoticon like :P (I used bold so the emoji doesn't activate) but ended up with
, which conveys an entirely different message to the one you were trying to send?
Have you ever tried to put a closed bracket after a ;-; and ended up with (..*your message*.. ;-
?
Do you ever just really dislike the forums' emojis and wish they didn't activate automatically? If so, then great! That's what this suggestion is all about!
Basically, if you typed in an emoticon like :/ that would normally activate an emoji, no emoji would appear. If you wanted said emoji to appear, you would have to click the emoji you wanted in the Emoji dropdown.
Sound good? Feel free to give me your opinions on this suggestion!
(this seems like something that would be regularly suggested, so I'm not surprised if it's a duplicate)

Support. I was once making an application form in the requests forum and this happened:
How active are you?
/10)
which is just really annoying.

Due to how the forums work, you'd need a separate emoji tag. I believe the wiki has one, so it might be able to be ported over.

Yes, I did consider that and that's pretty much what I was thinking Due to how the forums work, you'd need a separate emoji tag. I believe the wiki has one, so it might be able to be ported over.

Yeah, it's annoying. But consider that old messages would look like this:
Before:
I am sad
After:
I am sad :(

You could just replace every : ( with [sad} on the server.

Let's see…how many posts are there? Hmm.that's a lot. Might put a lot of strain on the server.

For some time (a month or so) you could enable both : ( and [sad} (I change them a bit so scratch doesn't) and replace those emojis when the server has nothing to do and then disable : (. And everyone knows that : ( is the same as
in a certain context. So it's not bad if you wouldn't do the replacement.

That is true tbh (I'm guessing you don't support this, but correct me if I'm wrong) Let's see…how many posts are there? Hmm.that's a lot. Might put a lot of strain on the server.

As I said, you could enable both and then rework them.

1. I've seen users with lots of confusing posts because they make some with this: :D or :P when they are legitimately trying to type those out.
2. That's an easy way to cause emoticonspam. Honestly, I'd prefer it if they didn't add emojis on the top of the screen when you're trying to make a post. It would be a bit less known.
Here's how it could work to be not automatic:
[emoji] [/emoji]
will make:

Support, I've experienced the same things and I agree that sometimes it really does change the mood of the post.
( Usually I just try going around it by using uwu, -w-, :3, and >:3 )

I think either this underscore system or perhaps a backslash (\) to negate
for instance, :D would still change to

This is commonly used in text based coding languages to tell the program to treat a character as a part of the string, rather than syntax.
