Elaborated "Community Guidelines" or something regarding Advertisements, F4F, etc...

As a member of the triple A. All we wanna say is that if there is a place where someone does not want you advertising, then don't advertise there. There are too many people defending this type of advertising. Please advertise in places such as show and tell as these places are mean't for advertising. I agree with your points on how scratch team should be more clear about this stuff. More people should be made aware about where and where not to advertise projects.

Maybe there could be a way to officially show that advertising or f4f is not allowed because some people say not advertising and no f4f but some people do not listen so maybe a way to check a box that says no f4f or no advertising that you would edit and then it would be official maybe it would look like this:

But wouldn't that simply be the same as just saying yes or no to Advertising and F4F in your About Me/WIWO?

It is kinda like that but it would seem more official and if it was given by the scratch team it means it would have some more reason behind it.

Support. I had someone tell me yesterday that advertising is not against the community guidelines. Definitely think it would be a good idea to clarify.

Thanks for bringing this issue up, Maniac!

Support. I think that f4f and advertising should be banned (although I know these are rejected suggestions).

Advertising should be banned because views should not be enforced. Advertising is a way of getting more attention on your projects. However, if this was enforced, then EVERYONE would be advertising constantly. Profile pages like @griffpatch's would be loaded with comments like, “Check out my project!” or, “Look at this!” “Look at that!” “Do you like this project?” “I've seen your projects, and you'll like this one.” “Again, views should not be enforced.

Follow for follow defies the point of following, as I've said once before. Following someone means that you like their projects and talents, and you want to show that person support. Saying, ”I'll only follow you if you follow me first," is not supportive at all. A follow is something you earn, not to be used as a bargain.

However, both of these suggestions have been rejected. Because this suggestion about elaborating where and where not to advertise/f4f will reduce the amount of requests to f4f and the large amount of comments that are just ads to someone else's project, I support this idea.

I agree that F4F and advertising are not good parts of the Scratch community. This is something that we should not do ourselves and encourage others to not do it as well. But we all need to make sure that we are kind about this. We shouldn’t harass or be REALLY mean to people who do those things. Others will have different opinions. But we can make a difference by not doing them ourselves. And telling them to not do it.

I do not think we should get rid of it everywhere except show and tell and other places like that but instead, just stop it where people do not want it because some people, (not me personally) enjoy f4f and some people allow advertising. but it is definitely a problem in places where people do not mention it but do not want it or when people specifically say no.
Please stay on topic. This is not a debate on whether advertising and F4F should be allowed…

This is madness. The entire community of Scratch has now split into two sides, one for advertising, and one not.

we only wanted to say our opinion on it. The scratch community turned it into madness. We did not intend for this divide, but more clarification on what the rules would be good.

The community is overreacting. People who like advertising are being mean to some famous Scratchers who just wanted to show their opinion. Some people seem to think that just because these Scratchers dont like advertising means they only care about their own gain and fame, although most popular Scratchers help people get more of an audience. People really need to cool their jets and respect other Scratcher's opinions.

support….. without ad hunting, my life will finally be easier, and i won't have to be suspicious whenever somebody comments on my profile. it also means i will be able t focus on my projects and not my mail more: these are some of the same reasons that others might support this, too.

So with recent groups emerging regarding advertisements, it has come to my attention that the site's rules regarding advertising is not clear. While the studio and projects emerged from a group of famous Scratchers that were voicing their opinions regarding advertisements, it quickly turned into a dramatic flamewar on whether advertising is okay or not. I have seen multiple users that disagree with them saying how "advertising on profiles and projects is okay“, and how ”there's nothing wrong with advertising on the projects on Explore". I know that this isn't true… Scratch doesn't allow users to advertise in such places- that's why Show and Tell exists! While I understand that advertising wouldn't become a Community Guideline, as it is allowed in Show and Tell, I think that we need to make these kinds of things more clear. We need to have a page that touches on where you can and can't advertise, and can touch on other things, such as F4F, and how it is okay, but also how you need to understand that not all users do it, and you need to respect that. There are some things in the community that either are not clear, or are something that is extremely controversial. I think adding a place that can adress these things will significantly benefit the community.

To summarize, we need to make sure that things that are only allowed in certain places, like advertising and more “controversial” topics, such as that of F4F, are more clear. I suggest we need another page similar to that of the Community Guidelines that explains such things.
I think this would be highly beneficial to the site, as there are some things in the community that either are not clear, or are something that is extremely controversial. I think adding a place that can adress these things will significantly benefit the community.
Coincidentally, we talked about this at the last moderator meeting - and we agree with you. While we aren't planning on expanding the Community Guidelines at this time (it's more for general principles), we are planning on making a forum post in Announcements to make sure there is clarity in these areas.

Well that's an interesting coincidence.
I'm glad though that you moderators see this “issue” and agree that there needs to be more clarity, and it's awesome that you're planning on making a post in Announcements regarding this! ^^
